Along with a caption that says “Sunny Standards & Practices are something else,” here’s what the actual letter to the writers said:
Warning: Scenes involving Dennis recording himself performing an inappropriate act with a dog, particularly when he displays a Tupperware container, must avoid any suggestive or explicit bestiality simulations. To maintain compliance for airing on FX linear channel and Hulu platform, film alternate angles and positions during shooting to ensure flexibility in post-production editing. The Tupperware container should be made as generic and unremarkable as possible in the footage.
In simple terms, there are many possible reasons why the Always Sunny crew included a scene of Dennis giving a dog a handjob, such as it being daytime or simply because they were bored. However, a more logical assumption might be that the show is planning to explore a storyline about the gang attempting to earn money through dog breeding. If the note had specified “Dennis masturbating a pedigree purebred dog,” this hypothesis would be strengthened.
Regardless, the note effectively explained that a specific scene of such nature would need to be omitted for both FXX broadcast and Hulu streaming, considering their content guidelines. Moreover, it’s important to note that this series is also available on Disney+. Unfortunately, there won’t be any collaborations with Bluey; instead, focus on the upcoming crossover episode with Abbott Elementary. Obviously McElhenney & Co. weren’t going to take that denial letter lying down with their hind legs in the air. Judging by the language in the reply letter, which he shared on his Instagram Stories, it sounds like the writers’ attempts to tone the scene down fell short of being successful.
Among all the questionable actions The Gang has inflicted on characters throughout the past 16 seasons, a dog breeding scheme might not seem so shocking at first glance. Yet, here I am, learning the hard way that this show never shies away from exposing viewers to the gruesome details of how Dennis would carry out such a scheme – in this case, extracting semen from an animal. It seems like the line between implication and reality is becoming increasingly blurred in the world of the show.
In Season 17, could Dennis be seen performing an act similar to what Jimmy did with a horse (for breeding purposes) on a dog? However, unlike Yellowstone, there was no one nearby with a container used earlier for leftovers, which is not typical animal husbandry practice.
