‘It’s Gonna Be Quite A Journey’: Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody 2 Director Explains How The Sequel Will Differ From The Original Movie

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for action-packed movies and a soft spot for Bob Odenkirk, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel to “Nobody” – Nobody 2! After his stellar performance as Hutch Mansell in the first installment, it’s a delight to know that we’ll be seeing more of this grizzled yet lovable action hero.

After spending several decades in comedy and later venturing into dramatic roles in shows like “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul”, Bob Odenkirk stepped into action films for the first time with “Nobody” in 2021. The movie received praise from critics and had a good run at the box office, sparking discussions about a possible sequel. Now, it’s official that “Nobody 2” is set to release in 2025, joining other anticipated movies on that year’s schedule. Director Timo Tjahjanto has also shared insights into how the sequel will differ from the original film.

It was revealed that Tjahjanto was appointed to direct “Nobody 2” in June, taking over the director’s role from Ilya Naishuller. Five months later, the director divulged that due to the events at the end of “Nobody”, Bob Odenkirk’s character Hutch Mansell will be confronted with the challenge of revisiting his violent past and dealing with his family knowing about his deadly abilities. Tjahjanto himself explained this to Empire.

After resuming his intense work routine, it’s interesting to observe how his loved ones respond to this driven aspect of him. Many men in similar situations wonder about their families’ reactions towards the side of them that is always striving and laboring for their family’s well-being. It promises to be quite an adventure.

As the story of “Nobody” unfolded, it became necessary for Hutch to reveal to his kids that he once held a unique position within the U.S. Intelligence Community – as an auditor, or assassin. This was already known by his wife. He abandoned this violent past when he chose to spare a target, witnessing them build a family and yearning for the same. Regrettably, his confrontation with Russian mafia boss Yulian Kuznetsov dragged him back into the fray. Given that “Nobody”‘s climactic scenes hinted at more trouble ahead for Hutch, it seems this dangerous past cannot be completely left behind.

Although it’s highly likely that “Nobody 2” will continue to explore R-rated themes, director Timo Tjahjanto hinted that the sequel might not have the same level of darkness visually as the original film. He put it this way: “The sequel won’t be as grim in terms of visual aesthetic.

Instead of maintaining the dreary, somber industrial ambiance from the initial movie, we’ll significantly brighten and colorize the setting to give it a more vibrant and sunny feel.

In the upcoming sequel to “Nobody,” Bob Odenkirk will join forces once more with Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Lloyd, Colin Salmon, Michael Ironside, Gage Monroe, and Paisley Cadorath. The star-studded cast also includes Sharon Stone as the lead villain, along with Colin Hanks, John Ortiz, McKenna Grace, and Chris Pine in supporting roles. Similar to the original film, Derek Kolstad was responsible for the script, but this time he collaborated with Bob Odenkirk, Aaron Rabin, and Umair Aleem.

On August 15, 2025, there will be no cinematic release of “Nobody 2”. In the meantime, enjoy watching the original “Nobody” by subscribing to Peacock streaming service. Stay tuned for further updates about what the sequel may bring!
