‘It’s Not As Though The Door Is Closed’: NCIS’ Brian Dietzen And Katrina Law Open Up On Chances Of Jessica And Jimmy Getting Back Together Following Official Breakup

As a long-time NCIS fan with over two decades of emotional investment in these characters, I must say that the breakup between Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer has left me heartbroken, yet hopeful. The chemistry between Katrina Law and Brian Dietzen was undeniable, and their on-screen romance felt authentic and deeply moving. However, as a seasoned viewer of this show, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected – after all, who would have thought that Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David could ever work out?

In the final episode of NCIS Season 21, it appeared Jessica Knight’s acceptance of the role as Camp Pendleton’s chief REACT instructor signaled an end to her relationship with Jimmy Palmer, given his emotional response to the possibility of her moving far away. However, after the broadcast of “Sticks & Stones” on the 2024 TV schedule, it was confirmed that Jessica and Jimmy had parted ways, despite Jessica returning to Washington DC in Season 22’s premiere. Yet, there remains a question as to whether they might reunite in the future. Actors Brian Dietzen and Katrina Law have shared their thoughts on the likelihood of this happening.

Although they are no longer together, Jimmy and Jessica still care deeply for one another. They might encounter obstacles, but there’s a possibility of reconciliation at some point.

Exploring ways to handle that situation, possibly discovering happiness among friends and perhaps in a romantic relationship, will undoubtedly lead to some uncomfortable moments. It’s not impossible that there could be another chance at romance down the line, but with so many twists and turns ahead, it seems challenging for that to happen.

After the heartfelt tribute episode dedicated to Ducky (David McCallum) in NCIS’s 22nd season, we can expect his character to be further celebrated and remembered throughout the series.

In the latest episodes of NCIS, they reintroduced a woman who holds a special place in Vance’s life, and I’m delighted that it seems we’ll be getting more of her in future installments.

Jessica and Jimmy managed to part ways in a peaceful manner. Jimmy expressed his belief that Jessica should find someone who would join her in pursuing international job opportunities, whereas Jessica felt Jimmy deserved a partner capable of offering him the stability he required. Dietzen hinted that their affection for each other would remain constant, yet as Jessica remarked during their discussion amidst their teammates attempting to prevent World War III, “Wouldn’t it be lovely if that were enough?

Rest assured, fans of NCIS need not fret about Jessica and Jimmy struggling to work together. Interestingly enough, Katrina Law has jokingly asked the show’s writers to have Jimmy pursue a romantic interest so she can create some amusing, awkward scenes. Regarding the future of these characters, the actress playfully commented:

There’s clearly an ongoing attraction between Jimmy and Knight throughout the series, as if they have a hidden connection that refuses to fade away. At times, it seems like they can’t help but catch each other’s gaze, hinting at feelings yet unspoken or undeveloped relationships. It appears their bond has not completely disappeared.

As we’ve only watched four episodes of NCIS Season 22 so far, it seems unlikely that Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer will rekindle their romance in the near future. Yet, I have a feeling that these two might share romantic moments again. I hope their relationship develops into one of NCIS’ memorable love stories, akin to Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, rather than Nick Torres and Ellie Bishop. Perhaps it could culminate towards the end of Season 22, or maybe we won’t see it until hypothetical Season 23, but I choose to stay hopeful.

On Mondays at 8 pm Eastern Time, you can catch an episode of NCIS on CBS. Afterwards, NCIS: Origins is shown. If you prefer streaming, a Paramount+ subscription will give you access to these episodes. Additionally, keep an eye out for the upcoming seasons of NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
