This series truly shines when it comes to its side characters, and I find myself utterly captivated during every scene featuring Christopher McDonald and Poppy Liu. To be honest, I’d gladly double down on Kiki’s screen time in the show. In the midst of the generational tussle between Deborah and Ava, a Millennial like me finds solace in these characters, almost as much joy as when watching Poppy Liu or Christopher McDonald grace the screen.

Among the well-known characters, Helen Hunt, Dan Bucatinsky, and many others appear, but none caught my attention as much as Robby Hoffman in the initial three episodes of Season 4. Randi, a gay, likely atheist ex-Hasidic Jew from New York, stood out right away as an intriguing character, and I’m already eager to see the trouble she and Kayla might stir up for Jimmy.

It’s just typical of Kayla to stray from the usual and hire an inexperienced assistant who seems to have valuable connections and a knack for getting things done. Frankly, Randi’s readiness alone to clean dog poop off Jimmy’s shoe impressed me enough to support her hiring. I’m excited to learn more about her, especially after hearing her take on hiring an assistant, such as what she told Jimmy about the choice.

Instead of relying on resumes, which can sometimes be misleading, consider posing an unconventional question to evaluate a candidate more accurately. For instance, you might ask something like, “If you were given the opportunity, how creatively could you fill a Honda Civic with Peanut M&Ms?” The response will reveal not only their problem-solving skills but also their ability to think outside the box.

It’s quite intriguing to ponder whether Jimmy will set up a second sink for her, given his beliefs, since he follows no religion. This is because, as he put it, “Certain religious principles, they seem to be valid. I can’t deny that.
