I’ve Still Been Thinking About The Acolyte’s Darth Plagueis Cameo, And Now Manny Jacinto’s Tease Of What Was Planned Really Makes Me Want Another Season

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vast Star Wars universe, I can’t help but feel a sense of both intrigue and disappointment upon hearing Manny Jacinto’s recent comments about The Acolyte. It was a series that held promise, with tantalizing teases hinting at potential storylines yet to be explored – particularly the enigmatic presence of Darth Plagueis.

It’s been four months since “The Acolyte” was unexpectedly cancelled following its first season, leaving many Star Wars fans on Disney+ disappointed because this series had hinted at intriguing plotlines that could have unfolded in future seasons. Specifically, the finale suggested two tantalizing possibilities: First, Vernestra Rwoh’s visit to Yoda in the last scene of the series, and second, the introduction of a mysterious character later identified as Darth Plagueis, who would become Palpatine’s trainer. Every so often, I find myself pondering this enigmatic appearance, and Manny Jacinto, the actor who portrayed Qimir/The Stranger, has dropped some tantalizing hints about the Darth Plagueis cameo that has only intensified my longing for a second season of “The Acolyte”.

Over the weekend at the FanExpo San Francisco event moderated by Maggie Lovitt from Collider, Jacinto was inquired about any insights regarding a possible upcoming season of “The Acolyte” and whether his character had any links to Darth Plagueis. In response, he shared:

Man, that’s quite a challenging query! They aren’t linked in any way, that much is certain. I’m not sure how to address it, though. What time is it now? [laughs] There are numerous interpretations about his character, mainly due to the mystery surrounding his real identity. Is Qimir actually named Qimir? We were keen on delving deeper into that aspect. Initially, we planned to further develop Plagueis in the second or even third season of the series, but I can’t disclose that information as we might return for more. I don’t want to reveal anything prematurely or mislead anyone, but let me just say there’s a lot more to discover, definitely.

Ok, hold up: Darth Plagueis and Qimir aren’t connected? That one took me surprise. I’d already assumed that Qimir wasn’t Manny Jacinto’s character’s real name, and no doubt that would have been revealed once we started learning about his past with Vernestra Rwoh, who’d been his master in the Jedi Order. I’m also not shocked to hear Plagueis would have returned later down the line following that cameo considering how important he is to the Star Wars mythology.

I’ve Still Been Thinking About The Acolyte’s Darth Plagueis Cameo, And Now Manny Jacinto’s Tease Of What Was Planned Really Makes Me Want Another Season

Jodie Turner-Smith, the star of ‘The Acolyte,’ doesn’t mince words when she expresses her belief that Disney didn’t adequately support the cast in the face of criticism.

‘Amandla Stenberg, from the Star Wars show, wasn’t too surprised by its cancellation.’

It’s quite odd for Jacinto to claim that these two aren’t connected, if I’m getting it right. In “The Acolyte,” Qimir presented himself as a Sith Lord, and given that the Rule of Two is in play at this point in Star Wars timeline, only Darth Plagueis should be alive alongside him. Yet, we never witnessed Qimir and Plagueis together onscreen, with the former merely glimpsed by the latter from a distance as they were leaving the enigmatic planet they all visited.

The most logical theory that surfaces about this absence of a connection is that Qimir, despite his Dark Side leanings, might not truly be a Sith. If we accept this idea, it opens up the possibility of a narrative where Plagueis, who embodies the essence of the Sith, feels betrayed by Qimir’s false claims and seeks to form an alliance with Osha instead. In this scenario, Plagueis could then emerge as the main antagonist in “The Acolyte,” pursuing and eliminating Qimir and Osha for their presumption and disrespect.

Here’s one way to rephrase it: I came up with an idea and Manny Jacinto’s comment only adds to my disappointment that The Acolyte was cancelled. I remain optimistic that we might return to this part of the Star Wars universe at some point, maybe through a novel or comic book. For now, you can still watch its single season on Disney+ with a subscription.
