As a die-hard movie buff with a soft spot for video games, I can’t hide my excitement about diving back into the gaming world with “A Minecraft Movie.” Fresh off the success of singing “Peaches” in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I’m eager to create another memorable soundtrack for this upcoming film. Over the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of being part of three video game adaptations, including last year’s Borderlands (a cinematic experience perhaps best skipped over), and of course, Super Mario Bros. Interestingly enough, Minecraft isn’t just my third video game adaptation—it’s also the second one I’ve written and sung an original song for! Recently, I’ve shared a little sneak peek into the music that fans can expect from this exciting adventure.
During a recent live-stream by YouTuber Quackity, Jack Black and Emma Myers performed an as-yet-unnamed track from the upcoming Minecraft movie. Since the lyrics include the repeated phrase “I feel alive,” it’s likely that will be the final title for this song. Unlike his emotional solo piano performance of “Peaches,” “I Feel Alive” harkens back to Black’s days with Tenacious D.
The tune features numerous allusions to the Minecraft universe, such as the enigmatic subterranean realm called The Nether, zombies, the Creative Mode from the video game, and, needless to say, a great deal of excavation. Previews for the upcoming Minecraft film suggest it’s adopting various internet memes and humorous takes on the game – who can forget Jack Black’s longing for the mines? While some enthusiasts had wished that the movie would incorporate at least one of the numerous internet parody songs popularized in the early 2010s, like “Don’t Mine at Night,” which remains a beloved tune among fans.
‘A Minecraft Movie’ Releases In Theaters on April 4
We’re almost a week away from finding out if Warner Bros.’ bet on “A Minecraft Movie” will prove fruitful at the cinema. Over the past few years, video game adaptations have seen a significant improvement in quality. Yet, some studios have still turned cherished games into senseless, emotionless junk that flopped with critics and tanked at the box office. The fanbase seems divided about “A Minecraft Movie.” Some fans were expecting an animated film similar to “Super Mario Bros,” but many fans have been swayed by the recent humorous trailers to give the movie a try, or at least hold off judgment until they read the reviews.
In this action-packed adventure, a group of unlikely heroes embarks on an epic journey into the Minecraft Overworld, where they must use their wits, courage, and resources to survive against all odds, conquer powerful enemies, and save their world from impending doom.
Four unlikely individuals find themselves abruptly transported via a puzzling gateway into a surreal, cube-shaped realm teeming with creativity. To return home, they must learn the ropes of this place and undertake a journey that takes an unanticipated twist with a skillful artisan as their guide.
