Jack Quaid’s ‘Novocaine’: The Ultimate Action Flick for Horror Enthusiasts!

Hello everyone! That’s Jack Quaid you see. If you recently watched him play a dubious character alongside Sophie Thatcher in the chilling movie “Companion,” get ready for a refreshing change with Paramount’s “Novocaine,” opening in theaters this week. And if you’ve been following Quaid on his wildly entertaining FX series “The Boys,” you’re familiar with his character, Hughie. He’s an ordinary guy who’s been dabbling with superpowers after frequently using a drug called “V.” Like many drugs, this enhancement has its health risks too.

In my experience, with Novocaine comes a unique twist for me as Nate – a character portrayed by Quaid – who finds himself in an unusual situation. This superpower-like ability grants me the inability to feel physical pain, derived from a real-life condition that’s far less glamorous in reality. At first glance, it may seem like a fortunate diagnosis; however, it could potentially be disastrous if I were to sustain serious injuries and lose an excessive amount of blood without even detecting it. As for how the film and character compare to Quaid’s previous roles, he delved into that in a MovieWeb interview.

I aimed to emphasize that the film is exceptionally good and intensely violent. I continually stress this point, but I stand by my words: This isn’t a horror flick whatsoever; rather, I consider it an action-packed production tailored for horror enthusiasts given its high level of graphic violence.

Quaid expresses, “I wanted to emphasize that Nate is unlike anyone else, more like a delightful human cupcake. He’s the sweetest character I’ve portrayed in my acting career. I believe he’s among the most heroic characters I’ve played, given his selfless actions for Sherry. Additionally, what makes him unique is that despite his disability, he doesn’t let it bring him down. Instead, he maintains a positive outlook and uses it as a strength.

Believing in the Romance

Similar to many captivating action films, the movie Novocaine features a delightful B-plot revolving around romance. Quaid discussed his character Nate’s love interest, Sherry (played by Amber Midthunder), and cultivating a genuine on-screen connection amidst the intense R-rated scenes in Novocaine. “I enjoy playing Nate so much,” he shared. “One aspect I appreciate about this movie is that it seems to be an attempt to evoke ’80s action movies – the kind where you not only love the action, but also care deeply for the character, making the action even more impactful.

As a passionate film enthusiast, it was crucial for me to craft a character that audiences could genuinely cheer for. Furthermore, I aimed to establish a believable romance between Nate and Sherry, as if the audience doesn’t embrace their relationship, they won’t be invested in seeing Nate and Sherry overcome obstacles together.

From Paramount Pictures, Novocaine will be released in theaters on Friday.
