As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel the void left by the conclusion of the captivating series 1923. However, Netflix subscribers are in store for a treat this month with the release of Ransom Canyon on April 17. Boasting a star-studded cast including Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Minka Kelly (Euphoria) and Jack Schumacher (Top Gun: Maverick), the latter of whom shared some intriguing insights about this eagerly awaited series with MovieWeb. For those who have previewed the trailer for Ransom Canyon, it may bring to mind Taylor Sheridan’s original series, Yellowstone, which ignited his epic tale on a different streaming platform. Jack Schumacher has offered some insights on this potential connection.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my admiration for the remarkable achievement that Taylor Sheridan has made with the Yellowstone franchise. It’s an exceptional series, and the spin-offs are nearly equal in quality, if not surpassing it somewhat. Truly, I am smitten by this captivating world he has created.
What makes ‘Ransom’ unique is its distinctiveness from ‘Yellowstone’. It stands on its own merits, focusing more on romance. When you start watching it, you won’t feel like you’re watching a copycat show. Instead, it offers a separate experience. I’m looking forward to this because I believe many viewers might worry about the similarities, and those who tune in will likely be pleased to discover that it’s not what they expected.
Bulking Up to Look “Corn-Fed” for ‘Ransom Canyon’
Beyond featuring several powerful and emotionally charged moments in the novel “Ransom Canyon“, Schumacher’s character, Yancy, additionally demonstrates a variety of cowboy abilities, mastering rides on various animals, from horses to bulls. Speaking about his preparation for the role, Schumacher mentioned, “We underwent extensive horseback-riding training. Every day for the initial few months, we had a cowboy camp, which is an incredibly demanding process.
Shumacher added, “It’s surprising how accustomed you become to riding a horse by the end. For someone like me with a background in bull-riding, it was a matter of adjusting my skills and techniques to mimic an authentic bull rider.” Shumacher, who often performs without a shirt for his roles, elaborated further on his physical preparation for the character Yancy.
I’ve been portraying a robust, resilient cowboy character, so I decided to add some weight and muscle to the role. This has resulted in me gaining approximately 15 to 20 pounds. Normally, I need to lose weight to achieve a lean look, but for this part, I wanted a more muscular, ‘corn-fed’ strong cowboy physique. To achieve this, I’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym, which I enjoy, despite it being quite exhausting, especially over a six-month period.
