Jackie Chan Plays a Fictionalized Version of Himself in Panda Plan Trailer

As a lifelong connoisseur of martial arts action films, the news that Jackie Chan is returning to two of his most iconic franchises has me doing flips with excitement! The trailer for Panda Plan looks like a rollicking good time, and who wouldn’t want to see Chan poking fun at himself while saving baby pandas?

Legendary action star Jackie Chan makes a comeback in the light-hearted action comedy “Panda Mission,” where he plays an exaggerated version of himself. The just-released trailer shows that he uses his skills as an action movie hero to protect a precious baby panda. Watch the freshly released trailer for “Panda Mission” below.

Under the direction of Zhang Luan (known for “Song of Youth, Give Me Five”) and produced by Mandarin Motion Pictures and Wishart Media Co., the film titled “Panda Plan” (originally known as “Xiong Mao Ji Hua”) brings Jackie Chan back to the action comedy genre he’s famously mastered. Known for his exceptional work in this genre, thanks to films like “Drunken Master”, “Mr. Nice Guy”, “Police Story”, the “Rush Hour” series, and numerous others, it’s delightful to witness Chan continuing to excel in delivering spot-on physical humor alongside his fighting moves.

The “Panda Plan” movie brings together stars such as Shi Ce (“Hi, Mom”), Wei Xiang (“Full River Red”), Han Yanbo (“The Super Family”), and Andy Friend (“The Wandering Earth 2”) along with Chan in its cast. For a glimpse of the action-comedy, watch the trailer below or read the synopsis provided.

In an extraordinary turn of events, when a wealthy individual from the Middle East hires soldiers to steal baby pandas straight from the zoo, famed action hero Chan gets drawn into the situation. He steps in to shield these precious creatures at the wildlife sanctuary.

Panda Plan
has not yet been given a U.S. release, but will debut in China on October 1, 2024.

Jackie Chan is set to step back into one of his most significant series later in the year, taking up the character of Mr. Han once more alongside Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso for the forthcoming “Karate Kid” sequel. Previously shrouded in mystery, it has now been disclosed that this new “Karate Kid” film will feature both Macchio and Chan, merging the two separate storylines.

In the upcoming continuation of “The Karate Kid” and “Cobra Kai,” original star Ralph Macchio will reappear as Daniel LaRusso. Meanwhile, the character Mr. Han, last seen in the 2010 film led by Jaden Smith, will be played once more by Martin Kove. Although specifics about the storyline are being kept secret, it’s been hinted that this new version will shift the setting to the East Coast and center around a Chinese teen seeking guidance through martial arts and an experienced mentor. The role of this young character has been filled by “American Born Chinese” actor Ben Wang, selected after a thorough casting process. The production is under the direction of Jonathan Entwistle from a script penned by Rob Lieber. The new “Karate Kid” installment is slated for release on December 13, 2024.

As a fervent supporter, I’m thrilled to share that, much like the continuation of Daniel-san’s journey in Karate Kid, Jackie Chan might soon team up with Chris Tucker for the eagerly anticipated Rush Hour 4. A recent update from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that Lionsgate is keen on reviving this beloved buddy cop series, but they’re grappling with the challenge of possibly collaborating with director Brett Ratner following allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment in 2017.
