Reports indicate that Jacob Elordi is in talks to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller, “The Dog Stars.” Since Paul Mescal had earlier been linked to another film with Scott following “Gladiator II,” it appears that scheduling conflicts may lead to Mescal being replaced by Elordi in the project.
Initially, actor Mescal was scheduled to feature in an upcoming thriller set around a devastating flu virus that leaves only a few humans alive. However, his commitment to Sam Mendes’ Beatles project prevented him from appearing in Scott’s movie. The thriller is an adaptation of the 2012 novel by Peter Heller and will likely be Scott’s next project following the Bee Gees biopic for Paramount. If negotiations with Elordi are successful, he would portray a pilot named Hig who develops an alliance with a gunman. Together they attempt to survive against a band of raiders known as Reapers.
In December, Scott suggested to Christopher Nolan during a discussion about Mescal’s potential involvement that the situation might be promising, considering his growing workload said, “Paul seems to have a lot on his plate right now, as he’s working on the Beatles project. I may need to let him go.” Similarly, Elordi is also occupied since he is planning to film the last season of Euphoria and will be starring alongside Margot Robbie in Wuthering Heights.
