Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez are nearing an agreement for a spring boxing match. As per ESPN, the anticipated location is T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 3rd. It’s also been reported that the cruiserweight bout will stream on Netflix, with the weight limit at 200 pounds.
Previously, Paul engaged in a boxing match with Mike Tyson, who had retired from the sport and gained fame on social media. Although he clinched victory through an eight-round decision and amassed 64 million simultaneous streams on Netflix, Paul has yet to spar against a top-tier professional boxer. Alvarez currently holds the unified title at 168 pounds and was previously a champion at 175 pounds.
Generally, Alvarez typically fights only twice a year – once during Cinco de Mayo weekend and again in September for Mexican Independence Day. It remains unclear whether his upcoming fight against Jake Paul will impact his previously arranged bout with Terence Crawford on the Riyadh Season event scheduled for Mexican Independence Day. The announcement of Alvarez versus Paul follows shortly after the confirmation of Alvarez versus Crawford. Back in November, when asked about a potential matchup with Paul, Alvarez expressed openness to the idea during an interview on the Full Send Podcast, saying “When I’m done with boxing at the top level, why not?
