James Bond Fans Want This 007 Actor Back In Action After His Wimbledon Look

James Bond Fans Want This 007 Actor Back In Action After His Wimbledon Look

As a die-hard James Bond fan, I can’t help but be thrilled every time I see Pierce Brosnan out and about, looking as suave and debonair as ever. The recent images of him attending Wimbledon have sparked a wave of excitement among fans who believe he could still bring 007 to life once again. While some dream of seeing him reprise his role as the iconic secret agent, I’d personally love to see him take on a new challenge: playing a villain in a future Bond film.

With MI6 yet to fill the position left vacant by James Bond, it’s no wonder that people are clamoring for a return of a past license holder to take on the role once more.

At this year’s Wimbledon tennis championship, Pierce Brosnan, a four-time secret agent and former James Bond actor, left an impression on a fan that many others could relate to. Posting on social media, @QTRBlackGarrett expressed, “Brosnan looks like he could star in a new Bond film right now,” emphasizing how elegantly dressed he was in sunglasses and a navy blue suit, despite preferring a black tuxedo as 007. Although older, Brosnan remains highly regarded by fans for his portrayal of the iconic character.

After amassing over 7,000 likes on the image, fans of Brosnan as Bond expressed their support for the notion. “@Jason_tas” commented, “This is the kind of Bond I’ve been craving for. Unlikely to happen, but it would be fantastic.” “@RaSt11b” added, “I’d gladly watch an older Bond film with Pierce Brosnan as 007.” Some went as far as suggesting that Brosnan could reprise his role as M, which was previously held by Dame Judi Dench during the time when both Brosnan and Daniel Craig portrayed James Bond. Although introducing an older Bond into the series might be confusing, it’s not unprecedented for the franchise to bring back past actors.

A Sean Connery cameo was considered for Skyfall

Fans have long imagined Pierce Brosnan reprising his role as Bond or even appearing as M in future films. However, during the production of “Skyfall,” which became the first Bond movie to gross over a billion dollars, there was a possibility that Sean Connery, the original James Bond actor, could have made a surprise appearance. Instead, Albert Finney portrayed the role of Kincaid, but fans would have been astonished if Connery had taken on the part instead.

Unfortunately, after “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” Connery retired and the producers of “Skyfall” hesitated to propose the idea. According to Sam Mendes, who spoke to The Huffington Post, there was an early discussion about bringing Connery back. However, Mendes believed it would be problematic. He stated, “It would take you out of the movie.” In the end, Mendes expressed relief that he didn’t pursue the idea further as he felt Connery is Bond and shouldn’t reappear in a different role. The brief consideration of this possibility was simply a distraction.

If Connery hadn’t received the offer, Brosnan would still have likely agreed had he been asked directly.

Pierce Brosnan says he’d return as a 007 villain

Fans may be excited about Pierce Brosnan reprising his role as the aging James Bond, but the actor himself has expressed no interest in it. In an interview with Josh Hamilton in 2021, Brosnan shared, “I believe that chapter of my life has come to a close. I’m proud of the four Bond films I made, and now it’s time for new adventures.”

Certainly, it’s impressive how Brosnan, with his silver fox appearance and remarkable facial hair, could be an asset as a friend or an adversary to the actor stepping into the James Bond role in the future. Intriguingly, Brosnan himself has hinted at exploring new territory by potentially portraying a sinister side of 007.

At Esquire’s “Goldeneye” movie marathon in 2020, a fan questioned Brosnan if he would consider joining the series as a villain instead of Bond. Quick-witted, Brosnan answered, “If invited, I’d say yes. I think so.” Such a role switch would add intrigue to the franchise, allowing Brosnan to experience Bond’s sharp wit and granting him an opportunity for a more satisfying demise than in his previous appearance.
