It’s evident when you watch the DC movies sequentially that different actors have portrayed Superman over the years, and now it’s David Corenswet’s time to step into the role. He’ll be donning the red cape for James Gunn’s Superman, and last December, we got our first glimpse of him as the Man of Steel when the teaser trailer for the movie was released. Over the weekend, a 30-second preview for the upcoming DC film was unveiled that included a shot of Corenswet’s Clark Kent soaring through the Arctic. Some viewers speculated that Corenswet’s face appeared computer-generated, but Gunn has set the record straight on the matter.
The filmmaker addressed a comment from a fan on Twitter who pointed out that there seems to be an issue with Corenswet’s facial appearance in the film, but suggested that there is still room for improvement in the computer-generated effects. This was the response from Gunn:
“Thanks for your feedback! We’re always striving to make our visual effects as realistic and convincing as possible. Your input helps us refine our work and ensure we deliver the best product we can.
In his face, you won’t find any computer-generated imagery (CG). Close-up shots with a wide-angle lens can make faces appear distinctively unique. Notably, the Svalbard background scene and David are entirely authentic.

The Superman Trailer Sparked an Engaging Query that Seems to Have Been Resolved in the Final Episode of Creature Commandos.
Overjoyed to hear that Superman is bringing back the iconic John Williams theme song! As a fan, it’s incredibly exciting to know that this timeless melody will be part of the upcoming DC blockbuster. I can hardly wait to see how James Gunn plans to incorporate it into the storyline!
It’s clear that a movie like Superman relies on Computer-Generated Imagery (CG) during its creative process. If you find Clark Kent’s flying maneuvers, such as the barrel roll, appear unnatural, it’s understandable as that’s your personal preference. However, James Gunn clarified that there’s no CG in David Corenswet’s face for that specific shot, so any oddities can be attributed to the wide-angle lens being used. This means that despite initial impressions, this shot contains more real elements than expected, considering the Svalbard background plate and the absence of excessive CG on David Corenswet’s face.
It’s worth noting that even though Superman might encounter CGI issues when it hits theaters in summer of 2025, there’s still ample time – about five and a half months – for any kinks to be sorted out. Given that this is Superman’s first solo movie since Man of Steel in 2013, as well as the initial film in the DC Universe franchise, it’s crucial for it to look stunning. This is not only due to general quality considerations but also because it will introduce the general public to the new shared continuity that started with Creature Commandos Season 1. Thus, a strong first impression is essential.
David Corenswet is teaming up with Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Eli Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and Wendell Pierce (and others) in the movie Superman. This action-packed superhero film is set to hit theaters on July 11. If you can’t wait that long, you can stream older Superman appearances through a Max subscription, which also grants access to Creature Commandos.
