Even before James Gunn’s Superman hits the big screen, there’s a massive buzz surrounding the rebooted DC Universe. The highly-anticipated DCU debut, Superman, is shouldering the responsibility of launching a new cinematic universe. Remarkably, much like its namesake superhero, the movie has been handling this task with ease so far. Slated for release later this summer, fans will have to be patient for a fresh trailer, but they’ll get a taste this month, as a new image of David Corenswet (from Pearl) in the main role has been unveiled.
Thanks to USA Today, who recently previewed upcoming movies in 2025, a fresh image (shown below) of Superman featuring Corenswet as the lead character has been released. Last December, the first appearance of this DCU’s Kryptonian was teased in an unprecedented 2-minute trailer that broke records. However, the latest glimpse offers fans a unique perspective on Corenswet’s portrayal. In contrast to the previous footage where Superman appeared battered and bruised, he appears cheerful and immaculate in the new image. The context of the scene is uncertain, but it’s evident that — Corenswet convincingly takes on the role of Superman.
2025’s most-anticipated movie, Gunn’s Superman, has just appeared on our radar, outshining other highly anticipated films like the follow-up to 28 Years Later and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the MCU. Whether this immense excitement will translate into box office success and a strong foundation for a new franchise remains to be seen, but given Superman’s storied history on the silver screen, it seems he’s found an ideal position among DC Comics fans. This long-awaited moment for admirers of the iconic character has been a long time coming.
‘Superman’ is Getting a Puppy Bowl TV Spot
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Superman is set for a significant promotional effort in early February. On the same day as the NFL Super Bowl, during the popular Puppy Bowl event, director James Gunn and his dog will be presenting an award. It’s expected that a new teaser for Superman will be unveiled, with Krypto likely to feature in it again. Moreover, the Puppy Bowl is set to honor a deserving pup with the “Krypto Super Play” award.
One intriguing aspect of the report is that it’s yet unclear if fans will catch a glimpse of a new Superman appearance during the highly anticipated NFL Super Bowl. Despite the likelihood that Warner Bros. might be planning a significant promotional effort for the live sports event, there’s a strong possibility that Superman won’t make an appearance at the football game. Spending a substantial amount on a Super Bowl ad doesn’t always guarantee success, yet companies such as Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures have maintained a continuous presence over the years. Given the upcoming start of the DCU, it might be beneficial to use the airtime during the most-watched annual sporting event; however, the buzz surrounding Superman may already have achieved whatever an ad could for the movie.
