As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in Marvel’s epic saga, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia hearing about James Spader‘s return to the MCU. Ultron was a formidable foe back in 2015, and his voice still sends chills down my spine whenever I think of those menacing lines.
James Spader is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actor who won an Emmy is preparing to retake his position as the voice for the robotic antagonist, Ultron, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming series titled “The Vision,” a spin-off from the popular show “WandaVision” that they produced. He initially portrayed this character in the 2015 film “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” (Paraphrased)
Paul Bettany is once again taking on the character of Vision, the synthetic being who developed feelings for the Scarlet Witch only to be eliminated by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, in the series WandaVision, he makes a comeback through magic and the potent force of grief, yet this time as a reformed android that now has an ethereal white appearance.
Terry Matalas, the highly acclaimed producer of “Star Trek: Picard,” is leading the development of a new series, which has been informally dubbed as “Vision Quest.” However, this isn’t its official name and it centers around White Vision’s journey to find a new meaning in life.
To the already intricate blend of mythology in the series, we have Ultron, a character well-known to Marvel enthusiasts. He was a self-aware being produced by Tony Stark, or Iron Man, initially designed as a security system but eventually rebelled against mankind. In his quest for destruction, he crafted another sentient being – Vision. However, in an unexpected twist, Vision, who could be seen as Ultron’s offspring, chose to support the Avengers in their fight against Ultron instead, ultimately aiding them in defeating the antagonist. (If you’re unsure about the details, feel free to rewatch Avengers: Age of Ultron.)
In the thrilling conclusion of the film, Ultron appeared to meet his demise. However, I’ve always been a bit curious about how this menacing AI could possibly resurface and rekindle its intricate bond with Vision, should that be the case in future installments.
The upcoming series is planned as the third installment of a trilogy, following from “Wandavision” and proceeding with “Agatha All Along,” set to premiere on Disney+ in September. The production team is aiming for filming in England early next year, 2025.
Spader is a longtime actor whose career has straddled both film and TV. Movies such as Sex, Lies and Videotape and Pretty in Pink established him for the ’80s generation, while starring in Boston Legal earned him awards and TV bonafides. He did a stint on The Office and spent 10 seasons creepily starring on NBC crime show The Blacklist, which aired from 2013 to 2023.
The actor is repped by CAA.
