Today, during a press conference, Jamie Foxx participated in discussions about his upcoming documentary on Apple TV+ titled “Number One on the Call Sheet.” In an interview with MovieWeb, Foxx discussed the difficulties he encountered while directing his first full-length fiction film, “All-Star Weekend,” which is said to be a hilarious comedy filled with various scenes similar to the iconic Robert Townsend comedy, “Hollywood Shuffle.” Interestingly, it appears that Robert Downey Jr. will be abandoning the blackface seen in “Tropic Thunder” for a different skin tone, and Jamie Foxx is doing the same.
Foxx proposed inviting an array of individuals for what appears to be an unconventional comedy project, not just Robert Downey Jr., but also Benicio Del Toro, Gerard Butler, Snoop Dogg, Jeremy Piven, Eva Longoria, DJ Khaled, The Game, and more. In a humorous mimicry of Downey Jr., Foxx portrayed the actor expressing apprehension about taking on the role, followed by his concern over playing a Hispanic character. “At two in the morning he texted me, and he said, ‘Hey buddy, I’m scared to play a Hispanic character.’ And I responded, ‘But you played a Black character in Tropic Thunder!'” Foxx is set to portray multiple characters himself, including a quadriplegic gangster and a white police officer who reportedly utters racist remarks so offensive that it was challenging to find someone else to deliver them.
Jamie Foxx mentioned that the movie had been stored (in the can) for some time, while everyone was eagerly awaiting a suitable political and cultural environment to release it. Foxx believes that the outrageous comedy in The Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix has signaled that now is an appropriate moment.
