Janhvi Kapoor admits in Sridevi’s absence, her ‘Peddamma’ Rekha’s approval means a lot to her: ‘Mom and she were like soul sisters’

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Indian cinema, I am always captivated by the stories that unfold behind the scenes. The bond shared between Rekha and Sridevi is one such tale that resonates deeply, especially as we delve into the life experiences of their protégé, Janhvi Kapoor.

As a lifestyle expert, I find it fascinating to delve into the lives of iconic figures in the South Indian film industry, such as Rekha and Sridevi, who both achieved widespread fame across India. In a recent conversation, Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sridevi, shared an intimate detail about her mother’s friendship with Rekha. They had a special bond that was strengthened by their shared sense of humor; they would exchange jokes in Telugu to keep their children in the dark about their inside jokes.

For quite some time now, Rekha has been highly esteemed and loved within the realm of Indian films. During a chat with Filmfare, Janhvi Kapoor disclosed fresh insights into the profound impact that the star of Silsila has had on her personal journey.

Kapoor reminisced about her mother, Sridevi’s, entry into showbusiness, sharing that she and Rekha had a close, sisterly relationship. Referring to the same period, Janhvi shared, “When mom started acting in Hindi films and was struggling, Peddamma provided comfort and guidance, and they remained friends for many years.

After a while, Sridevi stepped away from acting to prioritize her family, particularly following the birth of Janhvi. Consequently, Janhvi didn’t get to meet the Umrao Jaan actress until she was 14. In her recollection, Kapoor said, “I believe I was about 14 years old when Rekha Ji visited our home for lunch, and I greeted her, and she asked me to call her Peddamma, which means ‘elder aunt’ in Telugu.

Over time, the young actress from Ulajh observed the special connection shared by her mother, Sridevi, and Rekha. She commented, “Whenever they didn’t want us children to understand their private jokes or confidential matters, they would switch to speaking Telugu.

Following Sridevi’s unexpected passing prior to Janhvi’s debut movie, Dhadak, Rekha took care of Janhvi in various ways, such as making phone calls, sending messages, accompanying her at award functions, and even encouraging her after the less-than-expected performance of her film Ulajh.

Janhvi Kapoor expressed that since her mother isn’t here anymore, she finds the approval of Peddamma significant. This is because, artistically, both her mother and Peddamma share similarities. In essence, after her mother, she seeks validation from Peddamma regarding her work and talent, as her opinion holds great value for her.

In terms of her professional life, Janhvi Kapoor recently appeared in the first part of the Telugu movie titled “Devara”. Upcoming projects for her include “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari”, where she will share screen space with Varun Dhawan.
