Japanese Breakfast Releases New Single “Mega Circuit”

Japanese Breakfast unveiled “Mega Circuit” as their second track to be released ahead of the upcoming album, titled “For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)“. The song is accompanied by a music video that was directed by the band’s lead vocalist Michelle Zauner and Adam Kolodny.

Zauner shares that ‘Mega Circuit’ was one of his earliest compositions, with a goal to create a spookier, guitar-heavy album. The song delves into modern masculinity, investigating a complex yearning for a generation that, lacking positive role models, has resorted to violence and intolerance as a refuge. Notably, the esteemed Jim Keltner, who has played on hits like ‘These Days’, ‘Here You Come Again’, and ‘Dream Weaver’, contributed an incredibly powerful shuffle beat.

Previously this year, Japanese Breakfast unveiled their first single from the album titled “Orlando in Love,” which they performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Following the widespread acclaim and GRAMMY nomination of her albums Crying in H-Mart and Jubilee, For Melancholy Brunettes (and sad women) delves into a rapidly changing phase in Japanese Breakfast’s life, as they gained mainstream recognition.

Japanese Breakfast’s tour for their new album begins this year, starting with a performance at Coachella. Following this, they’ll embark on headline shows spanning North America, Europe, and an extra date in Bristol, UK. The complete album is set to drop on March 21 via Dead Oceans.
