Jared Leto’s Villain Unleashed in Jaw-Dropping ‘Tron: Ares’ Footage!

It’s now time for us to step back into The Grid with the eagerly anticipated sci-fi action sequel titled “Tron: Ares“. This exciting new film was showcased at CinemaCon, leaving fans thrilled as they got a sneak peek. According to Discussing Film, this is what they witnessed.

In the opening scene, we find ourselves not in the Grid but in New York City. On a bustling highway, two motorcyclists, both red, are in hot pursuit, their trails illuminating behind them as they deftly dodge and weave past vehicles, even managing to pass through a police car. The narrative then shifts to introduce Greta Lee’s character, who appears to be a scientist, standing confidently in the middle of the street, gazing up at a colossal flying machine, a Recognizer, soaring overhead in the city center.

The title flashes “Worlds Converging” as we witness a grid engulfed in orange hue, with wide-open portals to reality streaming light. Swift jets dart and dash across the Grid, leading into the bustling metropolis of New York City. As the trailer concludes, we catch a glimpse of the main antagonist, Ares, portrayed by Jared Leto, who is being slowly constructed. The voice of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) echoes over the screen as Ares’ face is revealed – introducing the latest villain in the Tron universe.

The film “Tron: Ares” is helmed by director Joachim Rønning, known for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Young Woman and the Sea.” The screenplay is penned by Jesse Wigutow, who has worked on “Daredevil: Born Again,” and Jack Thorne, famous for “Adolescence.” Jared Leto, an Oscar winner recognized for his roles in “Morbius” and “Dallas Buyers Club,” takes on the title character Ares. The rest of the star-studded cast includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

Hailing from Walt Disney Pictures, the upcoming film titled Tron: Ares serves as the latest addition to the renowned science fiction series that originated in 1982 and was subsequently expanded with 2010’s Tron: Legacy. Set for release on October 10, 2025, this new installment promises a rugged and “industrial” musical score by Nine Inch Nails. For more details, take a look at the official synopsis provided below.

In simple terms, “Tron” features a complex character named Ares, who’s an AI program dispatched from the digital realm to our physical world on a perilous assignment. This is humanity’s initial interaction with artificial intelligence entities.

‘Tron: Ares’ Is Due To Hit Theaters on October 10, 2025

In addition to the impressive cast that was previously announced, it’s now official that Jeff Bridges will reprise his role in Tron: Ares. Bridges originally starred as the protagonist in the 1982 initial installment of the Tron series, playing a video game developer who got trapped in the digital world called The Grid. He portrayed both the human character Flynn and the program Clu in the 2010 follow-up film, Tron: Legacy. In this sequel, his son also gets drawn into The Grid, where he discovers that his father, who had been estranged for years, has been trapped there for over two decades.

Work on the next installment in the Tron series actually started over two decades ago, specifically in 2010. Despite some delays, the upcoming film titled Tron: Ares is now ready to engage viewers once again within the digital world known as The Grid, according to producer Justin Springer, who believes that this is the perfect moment for audiences to return.

It seems that the concepts we delved into through Tron are more applicable than ever before. Given this, it feels like an opportune moment. Moreover, there’s a significant project at hand now, and while there’s already one in Los Angeles and Shanghai, we need to ensure it’s done correctly. The storyline and the team must be perfected first. Therefore, there are still several tasks to accomplish before we can reveal details about the upcoming film.

Director Joachim Rønning has hinted at what we can anticipate from the soundtrack. A significant aspect of the Tron series, Tron: Ares, will not be scored by the renowned French electronic duo Daft Punk who worked on Tron: Legacy. Instead, Rønning has chosen to utilize the talents of Nine Inch Nails to convey this “emotional” story.

Featuring music by Nine Inch Nails, this edition will have a rawer, more industrial feel. I’ve aimed to create a stark contrast between The Grid and reality, and the sound of Nine Inch Nails fits seamlessly into the new, grittier Tron universe we are building.
