Jasmin Savoy Brown Confirms Return for Scream 7 Amid Controversial Cast Changes!

The filming for Scream 7 has officially begun, and the roster of actors continues to expand. After a tumultuous pre-production phase that saw the dismissal of Melissa Barrera from Scream VI and Jenna Ortega’s departure from the project, the ensemble cast for the seventh installment in the horror series is gradually forming up, with Jasmin Savoy Brown reprising her role as one of the original four characters introduced in the 2022 edition.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement to share that I will once again step into the shoes of Mindy Meeks-Martin in the upcoming “Scream 7”. For those who remember, Mindy is the twin sister of Chad, the character brilliantly portrayed by Mason Gooding, and they are the nephew of Randy Martin, a fan favorite played by Jamie Kennedy in the original “Scream” and its sequel.

In the recent past, I had the privilege of bringing Mindy to life in both the 2022’s “Scream” and its upcoming sequel, “Scream 6”. It’s worth noting that Mindy is a groundbreaking character in the “Scream” franchise as she was the first openly queer character in the series.

Beyond my role in the “Scream” saga, I am also recognized for my portrayal of Teen Taissa Turner on the critically acclaimed Showtime series “Yellowjackets”. Can’t wait to continue this thrilling journey with all of you!

News emerges that Jasmin Savory Brown will reprise her role for Scream 7, coinciding with the announcement that Joel McHale has been cast as Mark Evans, a character originally intended to be Patrick Dempsey’s Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. After skipping the sixth movie, Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, the franchise’s main protagonist, and will be accompanied by returning actors Courtney Cox (as Gale Weathers) and Gooding Jr. (as Chad Meeks-Martin). New additions to the series include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, McKenna Grace, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp, who are yet to reveal their roles.

‘Scream 7’s Troubled Production

In simpler terms, Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding are coming back as the Meeks-Martin siblings in both Scream and Scream VI, which helps maintain the storyline’s consistency. However, it seems like something is missing without the return of Melrod Barrera as Sam Carpenter and Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter. Originally, Barrera and Ortega were planned to reprise their roles for Scream 7, but on November 21, 2023, news surfaced that Barrera was fired by Spyglass Media for speaking out about the Israel-Hamas conflict. The following day, Jenna Ortega announced she wouldn’t be in Scream 7 either, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2, although some believe the timing of the announcement hints at more than just scheduling issues.

The dismissal of Barrera sparked intense disapproval among fans of the series, prompting Spyglass Media to take a defensive stance and try to rekindle public enthusiasm. After a salary disagreement prevented Neve Campbell from rejoining for Scream VI, the studio ultimately agreed to compensate her in order to bring her back for Scream 7. In an effort to attract fans once more, this decision was made. Originally slated to direct Scream 7, Christopher Landon withdrew following the immediate reaction to Barrera’s termination, leaving franchise writer and producer Kevin Williamson to take charge of the upcoming film. Although the addition of actors like Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding is appealing, it seems that the promising energy built up by Scream VI might be waning as Scream 7 appears to be returning to the same formula, now featuring Sidney Prescott’s offspring.

Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
