Jason Day's "Banned" Malbon Vest Sells for $18K USD at Auction

As a long-time golf enthusiast and follower of Jason Day’s career, I must say that this year has been nothing short of intriguing for the Aussie pro. The Malbon Championship Vest saga at the 2024 Masters Tournament was undoubtedly one of the most captivating moments in recent golf history.

At the 2024 Masters Tournament, Jason Day’s Malbon Championship Vest, which he was requested to take off during the first round, was sold for an impressive $18,000 USD. This game-worn item was auctioned at the Brighter Days Invitational, a tournament and charity event started by Day and his wife Ellie to aid Central Ohio nonprofits. The proceeds from this sale will be donated to their Brighter Days Foundation.

36-year-old golfer Day, once ranked number 1 globally and a major tournament winner, but whose career had slowed down a bit, received much attention throughout the year due to his collaboration with the rising golf brand Malbon Golf. In an unexpected move in January, he switched from Nike to a less conventional athletic brand. As the season unfolded, the founders Stephens and Erica, together with creative producer Luke Garner, styled Day in parachute nylon pants, oversized cardigans, and even graphic sweater vests, which sparked some controversy among traditionalists. This partnership was beneficial for both parties; Malbon gained exposure, and Day embraced a fresh, edgy image within the alternative golf community.

However, no instance was as beneficial for Malbon as the Masters tournament. On Friday morning during the resumption of his first round, Day, who was paired with Tiger Woods, chose to wear a sweater vest featuring prominent branding. By the end of the day, the vest had disappeared, and it was unclear why until Day confessed to a journalist that he had been politely requested to take it off. According to GolfMagic, the purchase of this vest also includes an opportunity to play a round of golf with Day.
