Jason Momoa Gets Honest About The Blessing Of Only Getting Really Famous Later In His Hollywood Career

As a devoted fan of Jason Momoa, I have to say that his journey in Hollywood is nothing short of inspiring. From Khal Drogo to Aquaman, he has undeniably left an indelible mark on the world of cinema. But what truly sets him apart is his unwavering dedication to his family, especially his children.

Jason Momoa’s acting career is something many aspiring actors long for. From his brief yet impactful portrayal of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones to his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune, Momoa has found great success in Hollywood. However, even with his late-in-life fame, the native Hawaiian mentioned one advantage that came along with it.

Juggling numerous high-profile film roles and being part of the band ÖOF TATATÁ as a bassist means that Jason Momoa, a Screen Actors Guild nominee, spends a lot of time on the road. However, Momoa shared with Forbes that his early days in Hollywood were far from busy. But finding fame later brought him one significant advantage:

In my younger years, acting roles weren’t readily available for me. During the time I was raising my children, it proved challenging to secure jobs, making it necessary for me to stay at home during their crucial developmental years. My kids are 16 and 17 now, and they aren’t keen on spending much time with me. They don’t seem to miss me too much. However, when I visit town, they make an effort to see me. We often spend our summers together, but for now, they’re deeply engrossed in their schoolwork. Despite this, we maintain daily communication and remain connected.

As a gamer, I might say: In the early days of my Hollywood journey, the roles weren’t exactly pouring in for me, but there was a silver lining – it allowed me more time with my precious little ones, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf. It seems that everything happens for a reason, and it turned out that my luck in Tinseltown needed to bloom later so I could witness their growth first. Even as they’ve grown older, Momoa told Forbes that I still miss my family dearly whenever I’m on the road, just like any loving dad would.

It’s possible that having a movie star father, such as Jason Momoa, wasn’t the most difficult thing for his children. In fact, I could make a case that they felt incredibly fortunate when they had the opportunity to spend time on the sets of films like Aquaman 2, and experience the excitement firsthand. Additionally, they get to handle props from his movies, like Momoa’s son wearing Batman’s cowl and his daughter wearing Wonder Woman’s tiara during filming for Justice League. It’s not every day that young kids have the chance to participate in fun activities like that. It must be a truly special experience to have your children show their support and offer encouraging smiles as you work on set.

After his recurring role on Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa’s filmography didn’t skyrocket immediately. An interesting tidbit about the Aquaman star is that he faced challenges in securing jobs following his portrayal of Khal Drogo since people were unaware that he spoke English and had no clear idea where to categorize him. He stated that he couldn’t secure a meeting “to save his soul” until Zack Snyder contacted him for his debut as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which eventually led to the lead role in his career-transforming movie, Justice League. This experience underscores the fact that just one role can shatter barriers and give the world a glimpse of your talent. After Aquaman, Momoa landed more enticing roles in prominent franchises like Dune and the Fast and Furious films.

In a just world, later Hollywood success doesn’t have to be a negative outcome if it allows you to witness your children’s significant achievements before your big break happens. I imagine Jason Momoa’s kids are extremely proud of their action hero dad and that he continues to take on exciting roles such as his collaboration with Dave Bautista on the film “The Wrecking Crew.” Be sure to check out our 2025 movie releases to stay informed about this versatile actor’s newest projects.
