As a hardcore comic book fan who grew up devouring DC comics, I can barely contain my excitement about Jason Momoa joining the cast of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as Lobo! This alien bounty hunter has always been one of my favorite characters, and I’ve been hoping to see him on the big screen for years. It feels like a dream come true that Momoa, who was the perfect Aquaman, will be bringing Lobo to life.
I remember eagerly awaiting each new DC movie during the DCEU era, with “Aquaman” being one of my favorites. The character’s journey from a cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” to his own standalone film was truly thrilling, and Momoa’s charisma and physicality made him the perfect Aquaman. I still remember the disappointment of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” but the news of Momoa playing Lobo has helped me forget that for a moment.
I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as I recall all the times Momoa talked about wanting to play Lobo during the press rounds for “The Lost Kingdom.” It’s amazing how things have come full circle, with Momoa finally getting his wish. I’m already counting down the days until June 26, 2026, when “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” arrives in theaters and we get to see Momoa bring Lobo to life on the big screen.
I can’t help but wonder what other iconic DC characters Momoa will play next! Maybe he’ll even team up with Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam someday, and they could have a bromance for the ages. Only time will tell! But for now, I’m just grateful that DC is giving us more of Jason Momoa in the DC Universe.
Oh, and let me end with a little joke: I wonder if Lobo will be able to survive being directed by James Gunn after all those Guardians of the Galaxy movies…! 😉
Actor Jason Momoa, known for his role in Aquaman, will remain within the DC universe. He’s set to appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo, an alien bounty hunter from the comics who debuted in 1983, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jason Momoa played Aquaman in the DC Universe franchise, first making an appearance as the character in a cameo for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). He then starred in Justice League (2017) and headlined Aquaman (2018), which was a huge success, grossing over $1 billion. This marked the peak for the DCEU films, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2021) serving as their conclusion. Unfortunately, this final film underperformed both financially and critically, earning only $439 million.
For years now, I’ve dreamt of stepping into the character that I’ve often discussed, even during the promotional tours for “The Lost Kingdom”. Yesterday, I shared a snippet from one such occasion where I expressed my hope to be contacted about the role. On Instagram, I accompanied this quote with, “they finally reached out.
Over time, multiple efforts have been made to adapt Lobo for the silver screen. Filmmakers like Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton have tried their hand at it, with Dwayne Johnson expressing interest in Peyton’s version. In 2018, Warner Bros. and Michael Bay considered the project, but it never took flight. On television, Emmett J. Scanlan portrayed Lobo on the SyFy series “Krypton”.
In issue #3 of the comic “Omega Men,” Roger Slifer (the writer) and Keith Giffen (the artist) introduced Lobo, a character. This blue-skinned, cigar-smoking extraterrestrial possesses extraordinary strength and can heal rapidly. Over time, Lobo has engaged in battles with both heroes and villains alike.
The upcoming film titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026, with Milly Alcock taking on the role of our hero. This will be the second installment in the freshly managed DC Universe by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, as Gunn’s “Superman” film is scheduled for release in July before it.
