Jason Ritter Boards ‘Lanterns’ at HBO

HBO‘s Lanterns is adding to its cast again, signing Jason Ritter for a recurring role.

In the TV series inspired by DC’s Green Lantern, Ritter will portray Billy Macon – a charming, good-looking character who follows his father’s orders. Leveraging his family’s esteemed reputation, he maintains a strong sense of pride from his small-town background and stands to lose much if things go awry.

Ritter will embody the role of Billy Macon in the Green Lantern series adapted from DC comics. Billy is a handsome, smooth talker who obeys his father’s instructions. He uses his family’s prestigious background to bolster his own small-town pride and stands to lose significant assets if he falters.

In the role of Billy’s dad, William Macon, is Garret Dillahunt. This character, William, portrays a self-important individual with a penchant for conspiracy theories and an unyielding ambition that he conceals beneath a pleasant demeanor, revealing his more sinister nature only sparingly.

In the series titled “Lanterns“, Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre portray Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart respectively. These interstellar police officers find themselves entangled in a sinister mystery on Earth, as they delve into an investigation of a murder in the heartland of America. The ensemble also includes Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.

Filming for the series titled “Lanterns,” produced by Warner Bros. TV and DC Studios, commenced in late February. The show is overseen by its co-creator Chris Mundy (famous for “Ozark”) as the showrunner. He’s working on the eight-episode season alongside fellow creators Damon Lindelof (known for “Watchmen” and “The Leftovers”) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. They are all executive producers, along with James Gunn, Peter Safran from DC Studios, Ron Schmidt, and James Hawes, who is directing the first two episodes. Additionally, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov have been confirmed to direct as well.

At present, Ritter shares the screen with Katky Bates in the CBS series known as Matlock, and he will appear as a guest star in the upcoming second season of Poker Face on Peacock. His recent projects encompass Netflix’s Raising Dion, Hulu’s miniseries Candy, lending his voice to Krapopolis and Gen V. He is represented by The Burstein Company and Gersh.

The InSneider newsletter first reported Ritter’s casting.
