As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of Bollywood, I can confidently say that Javed Akhtar’s insightful words about Amitabh Bachchan serve as a testament to the power of talent and foresight. The duo’s collaboration in Zanjeer was not just a turning point for Big B, but also a pivotal moment in Indian cinema.
Amitabh Bachchan is still highly regarded for his “Angry Young Man” character from his earlier years, a tribute to the exceptional writing team of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. When the crowd cheered at Inspector Vijay Khanna’s famous line in Zanjeer, “This is a police station… it’s not your father’s house”, full credit goes to the writer for creating such an iconic phrase. For those who may not know, Salim-Javed collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in the timeless film Zanjeer.
In a recent interview with Indian Express’ Expresso, Javed Akhtar shared that they recognized Amitabh Bachchan’s exceptional acting ability even before he reached stardom, and he proved this with an outstanding performance. Akhtar stated, “We had the insight to see that Amitabh Bachchan was a talented actor. It was his films that were not successful. We supported his talent, and he rewarded us by delivering a fantastic performance.”
During their chat, Javed not only complimented Big B but also described him as an outstanding actor. Moreover, he mentioned that after Dilip Kumar, there’s no one quite like Amitabh Bachchan. Interestingly, while Dilip Kumar made about one film every two years, Amitabh Bachchan was delivering around 7-8 successful movies annually.
Javed Akhtar rounded off the discussion by outlining Amitabh Bachchan’s regimented lifestyle and work approach. He added, “I’ve worked with him on fourteen films, and there have been no issues with how he delivered my dialogues. In fact, I am grateful that he enhanced some of my lines.”
