As a fan who has spent countless hours immersed in Greek mythology and binge-watching Jeff Goldblum in everything from Jurassic Park to The Grand Budapest Hotel, I am positively ecstatic about Netflix’s upcoming series Kaos! The trailer alone, with its darkly comic twist on ancient tales, had me hooked.
In the trailer for Netflix’s humorous and ominous series, Kaos, Jeff Goldblum portrays a ruthless yet charismatic deity, assuming the role of the mighty Zeus, the King of Gods and ruler of the world.
In a contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, Goldblum finds himself growing more and more anxious as he faces humans gifted with abilities capable of toppling him. Meanwhile, his family dynamic is complicated by siblings who are both scheming and inept, as their own power struggles unfold, as depicted in the trailer released on Monday.
Goldblum, embodying Logan Roy’s character and donning high-end tracksuits, remarks in the trailer teaser for the Greek mythology series created and penned by Charlie Covell, who previously scripted the British drama “The End of the Fucking World” for Netflix: “We must make destruction resonate beautifully.”
Eventually, Zeus begins to dread his approaching demise and the end of the world, as mortals uncover the divine secrets about their gods’ future. This happens when the Ruler of All Gods wakes up one day to find a wrinkle on his forehead, which seems to be a sign of an old prophecy that hints at Zeus’ destruction.
In the course of the story, an unseen voice declares, “A line forms, order dissipates, families crumble, and chaos prevails.” At a certain moment, Zeus, filled with suspicion, is depicted clutching a shotgun as he seems to be on the verge of self-destructive behavior.
The cast also includes Janet McTeer portraying Hera, Zeus’ spouse; Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Aurora Perrineau as Riddy, and Debi Mazar as Medusa. The main cast is joined by Killian Scott, Misia Butler, Stanley Townsend, Billie Piper, and Suzy Eddie Izzard in supporting roles.
Kaos will debut Aug. 29 on Netflix.
