Jeff Goldblum Puts on Impromptu Piano Gig at London Station to Celebrate ‘Wicked’ Release

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I must admit that witnessing Jeff Goldblum‘s impromptu piano performance at St. Pancras International train station was a moment that transcended digital boundaries and made its way into my real-life gaming highlights reel!

On Wednesday, Jeff Goldblum spontaneously played the piano at London’s St. Pancras International train station, delighting onlookers, as a tribute to the launch of the show “Wicked“.

The actor from Jurassic Park, set to play the Wizard of Oz in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming musical version, recently gave a heartfelt performance of a song from Wicked and two Christmas classics, captivating onlookers like passengers and shoppers as they watched.

Goldblum isn’t just an actor; he’s also musically gifted. With The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra being his band, they are recognized for their modern takes on classic jazz tunes and well-loved American songbook classics.

On Wednesday, the station where he played revealed a Christmas tree themed around the movie “Wicked”, in collaboration with Universal Pictures, to mark its premiere. At the St. Pancras piano, Goldblum continued a lineage of renowned performers such as Grammy winners Alicia Keys and Norah Jones, and the duo Rod Stewart and Jools Holland. Other distinguished musicians who have played the famous St. Pancras piano include Elton John and John Legend.

I had the privilege of attending the European premiere of the movie last night at London’s Royal Festival Hall, where I was thrilled to be among the stars including Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh, Bronwyn James, and Ethan Slater. And let me tell you, it was a pleasure to see the legendary Jeff Goldblum there too!

Producer Marc Platt, who’s been instrumental in Broadway’s remarkable musical journey, expressed, “It’s taken quite a trip to reach this point.” He then extended gratitude to his partners and friends at Universal Pictures for their unwavering backing of the play and the upcoming movie throughout numerous years. It seemed that the delay was due to his search for an ideal director in Lin-Manuel Miranda, whom he found in Chu. In his words, “I held out for someone with such creativity, such skill, and such compassion to step forward and announce, ‘I wish to direct this film.’

According to the top research company NRG, the musical “Wicked” is projected to debut with an impressive $85 million at the box office. This opening could place it among the most successful starts for a musical, as reported by sources who have been granted access to the data and have spoken to The Hollywood Reporter.
