Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reveals Which Walking Dead Storyline Should Have Been Dropped

In the season finale of the sixth series, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was introduced, later becoming a main cast member from the seventh season onwards. After the conclusion of the initial show, Morgan transitioned to his own spin-off titled “The Walking Dead: World Beyond,” joining Lauren Cohan’s character, Maggie Rhee, in this new venture.

Negan’s debut in “The Walking Dead” was accompanied by one of the most contentious plotlines. The Season 7 opener was a heart-pounding, nerve-wracking, violent episode for all fans, serving as a pivotal moment within the series. Recently, on a talk show, Jeffrey Dean Morgan expressed his opinion that the scene involving Glenn’s death might have been better left undeveloped by the writers.

In their discussion, Lauren Cohan prompted him to reveal a storyline from the series that, in his view, should have been left untouched by the writers. At this point, Morgan hesitated, since the creator of the franchise was present, causing him to feel uneasy about voicing his opinion.

Nevertheless, Morgan went on to remark, “I’m merely stating this. If it had been different, possibly sparing Glenn, it could have simplified things for both of us,” the actor clarified, mirroring a recurring theme throughout the series.

He went on to say, “It would have changed many aspects of the tales, but you wouldn’t hold it against me.” In response, Cohan chimed in, “Perhaps we’d become friends instead!

He conceded, “Yes, we’d likely become friends.” He clarified, “To be clear, Glenn might still have met his end some other way. However, I wasn’t involved in it. So, I’m merely stating this for precaution.

Glenn Rhee gained immense popularity throughout the series, and his passing was undoubtedly one of the most impactful moments. His death was hinted at the end of Season 6, leaving viewers on edge with a monumental cliffhanger that resonated across television. This tragic event was later confirmed in the Season 7 premiere titled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” Despite airing nearly nine years ago, this episode remains one of the most debated and remembered in the franchise’s history.

In the original comics, Glenn met his end at the hands of Negan and his bat, Lucille. Given all the changes in the adaptation, nothing was set in stone. The situation grew more intense when Abraham Ford was killed unexpectedly, a shocking event preceded by Glenn’s death following Daryl’s outburst.

Negan’s Storyline Continued

Despite some viewers finding it difficult to pardon Negan for Glenn’s demise, the story arc was crucial for a significant shift, not only for Negan but also for Maggie. Post the conclusion of the initial series, they are now leading characters in Dead City, with its second season currently underway.

In the sequel series, the duo ventured into a post-apocalyptic New York City to find Maggie’s missing son, Hershel. The storyline continued to explore… Ahead of Season 2’s release, Morgan hinted in an interview, “In Dead City, I don’t think it’s the final year at all, but we’re shaping a character who, when we initially met him, was quite terrible. Over time, however, we begin to see another, more compassionate side of him.
