As a fan who has been captivated by the magical world of cinema for as long as I can remember, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming collaboration between the extraordinary talents of Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman in “The Gallerist”. The tantalizing premise of a gallerist attempting to sell a dead man at Art Basel Miami has me on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
Following Jenna Ortega’s successful role in one of the most prominent films of 2024, she shows no signs of slowing down as she continues to collaborate with notable artists. It’s rumored that she will be teaming up next with Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman in a film titled “The Gallerist”. The plot had me do a double take when I heard it.
Titled “The Gallerist,” this upcoming film is expected to focus on a character who runs an art gallery, striving to secure her next major sale amidst the prestigious Art Basel Miami event. Despite no specifics about the storyline being revealed in the Deadline article, it’s set to star Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega. Notably, Cathy Yan will helm this project for the first time since directing “Birds Of Prey.
It’s difficult to categorize whether “The Gallerist” would be a black comedy, thriller, or full-on horror film (given Ortega’s tendency towards such genres), but the combination of these two talents is certainly worth sacrificing for… if we’re talking about a fictional character being turned into a work of art, that is. The movie could delve into issues surrounding commodifying objects, or it might satirically explore the extreme measures one might take in pursuit of artistic expression.
In my imagination, it’s Natalie Portman who takes on the role as the gallery owner in this project. Given her powerful performance in “Black Swan,” she certainly has the range for such a part. The screenplay for this movie is penned by Cathy Yan and newcomer James Pedersen. I must admit, I’ve been eagerly anticipating Yan’s next project since her underappreciated DC film, not to mention her outstanding work on an episode of “Succession” in 2021. It’s also worth noting that Natalie Portman will be producing the movie, along with several other producers who collaborated on the 2021 film “Stillwater,” starring Matt Damon.
It’s possible that The Gallerist will collaborate with Jenna Ortega in several upcoming films and television projects following the success of the “Beetlejuice” sequel, which has ranked among the top 10 highest-earning movies this year. Ortega had the opportunity to work alongside many notable figures for the Tim Burton project, and Winona Ryder described her as the essential piece that the second movie required to come together effectively.
Ortega has previously filmed a movie titled “Death of a Unicorn” alongside Paul Rudd, as well as the Taika Waititi adaptation of “Klara and The Sun”. At present, she is engaged in filming the second season of “Wednesday” for Netflix. This year, Natalie Portman graced our screens in one of the top films of 2023, “May December”, and led Apple TV+’s “Lady Of The Lake”. Upcoming projects include a Guy Ritchie adventure film titled “Fountain of Youth”, where she stars alongside John Krasinski, as well as providing a voice role in “The Twits”.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the production of “The Gallerist” manages to secure these two remarkable actresses, as I can’t wait to witness their interpretation of such an exhilarating plotline.
