On Wednesday, actresses Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are reportedly discussing roles for a new adaptation of the film “Single White Female.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is the current state of negotiations.
3000 Pictures, under its contract with Sony, is planning to reimagine the 1992 horror drama “Single White Female,” originally starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film was directed by Barbet Schroeder and was adapted from John Lutz’s 1990 novel “SWF Seeks Same.” Alongside Lutz, Don Roos contributed to the screenplay adaptation of this novel.
Sony chose not to respond regarding the proposed remake of the movie “Single White Female”. In the original film, Jane Fonda starred as Allison, a woman who invites Hedra (played by Leigh) into her Upper West Side apartment, unknowingly letting in a dangerous stalker straight out of a suspenseful thriller. Sony’s Columbia Pictures released “Single White Female”, which was produced at a cost of $16 million and earned $48 million domestically.
In 2005, the horror thriller got a direct-to-video sequel titled “Single White Female 2: The Psycho“, headlined by Kristen Miller. The remake of “Single White Female” from 3000 Pictures is notable as it features neither Ortega nor Russell as white characters.
In addition to starring as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s show Wednesday, Ortega is also the main actor in A24’s movie Death of a Unicorn. Here, she plays a role alongside Paul Rudd, portraying a father-daughter duo who unintentionally strike a unicorn with their car and then transport it to a secluded wilderness retreat owned by a wealthy pharmaceutical executive.
In addition to his roles, Ortega is set to appear in the upcoming suspense thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” marking The Weeknd’s first foray into feature filmmaking and scheduled for a May 16 release in cinemas. In this production, Ortega will portray Anima, with Barry Keoghan taking on the character of Lee.
In the highly-acclaimed family drama “Waves” directed by Trey Edward Schults, Russell was the standout performer. She later co-starred with Timothée Chalamet in Luca Guadagnino’s unusual love story titled “Bones and All“, where she portrayed the character Maren. Prior to this, she was seen on TNT’s “Falling Skies” and later landed a role in Netflix’s “Lost in Space”.
