As a seasoned gamer of both TV shows and real-life drama, I must say that the return of Jensen Ackles to CBS’s “Tracker” has sent my heart racing like a wild mustang across the plains! After years of watching Sam and Dean Winchester battle supernatural forces on “Supernatural,” it was a delight to see him step into the role of Russell Shaw, Colter’s long-lost brother.
Fans of Justin Hartley’s popular CBS drama “Tracker” have been eagerly awaiting developments since the shocking end of Season 1 in May. Although there has been some positive news about the return date, uncertainty surrounded the plot for Colter’s siblings, especially considering Jensen Ackles’ new venture. However, Ackles, known for his role in “Supernatural,” has put my concerns to rest with a recent post about “Tracker”!
Actor Jensen Ackles, known for his roles on CW shows, appeared alongside his former colleagues on the series “Tracker” in the spring. He portrayed Russell Shaw, Colter’s eldest and long-absent brother. The episode was entertaining, not just due to the numerous “Supernatural” references. In an Instagram post, Ackles, who will soon be seen in a spinoff of “The Boys” on Amazon Prime Video, revealed that Russell is expected to make an appearance in at least one episode this fall.

It’s not surprising that the post’s caption doesn’t reveal major spoilers, and it’s no secret that Vancouver, where Supernatural was filmed for fifteen seasons, is a beautiful city as described by Ackles. The “Till next time” suggests there might be more of Tracker beyond just bringing Russell back to potentially kill him off. It appears my concerns about Ackles’ Prime spinoff meaning less of the Shaw brothers were unnecessary, and it’s enjoyable to be proven wrong sometimes!
Based on Justin Hartley recently posting a “Back at it” photo on his Instagram account, and Jared Padalecki (Ackles) revealing his return to the show around the same time, it seems likely that the Season 2 premiere might bring back the Shaw brothers. This aligns with how Season 1 ended, as we saw Colter discovering some concerning truths about their sister Dory – she had been hiding information about their father.
Currently, it hasn’t been officially confirmed that I’ll be back as Dory for Season 2 of “Tracker”, but I did express my eagerness to reprise the role during a chat in the spring. However, since making my debut on “Tracker” and reminiscing about the chaos of my days on “Manifest”, I’ve been fortunate enough to secure my own show.
In an interview with TopMob earlier this year, Justin Hartley discussed the demanding workload of Tracker, serving both as a lead actor and executive producer. He also acknowledged his role in bringing guest stars like Jared Padalecki (Ackles), Richard Roxburgh, and his former “This Is Us” colleague Jennifer Morrison onto the show. We’re looking forward to seeing more exciting guest stars when the series comes back – we can definitely rely on Jared Padalecki!
If you’ve missed any episodes from Season 1 of Tracker or simply want to rewatch the ones where the Shaw siblings reunite with Colter, you can now stream the entire season with a Paramount+ subscription. Originally set for October 27, the start date for Season 2 has been moved up to October 13 due to adjustments in the fall schedule. Although we’ll have to wait a few more months for the return of Colter and his team, at least the gap isn’t as long as it initially seemed.
