Jesse Eisenberg Recalls “Unbelievably Inappropriate” Mistake He Made When Hosting ‘SNL’

Jesse Eisenberg finds it hard to recall his time hosting Saturday Night Live with warmth, as he mentioned recently.

In 2011, Eisenberg served as the host for Saturday Night Live, but he jokingly admitted that he has nothing but unpleasant recollections from that time. He shared this during a chat with Jenna Bush Hager and Amy Poehler on Today with Jenna & Friends.

At age 17, my ambition was to pen for Saturday Night Live (SNL), Eisenberg shared. I even prepared a packet and secured an agent. Fast-forward 10 years, when I was asked to host the show, I naively thought I could write all the skits myself.

It turns out, Eisenberg admitted, “they have writers.”

He went on to say, “I’m clearly out of my depth here. All I wanted was to write, something I’ve yearned to do for ages. So, I spent the week passing scripts to various actors, thinking that was the way. It turns out, I was mistaken.

Eisenberg admitted his mistake was incredibly inappropriate and offensive to Hager and Poehler, but Poehler, who is a former SNL star, told him not to worry about it. “You’ve worked too hard for this,” she said. “It’s better to move forward than to look back.

Today, Eisenberg dropped by as part of his promotional tour for the critically acclaimed film, “A Real Pain.” This movie that he penned, directed, and acted in (alongside Kieran Culkin) is up for an Oscar. Interestingly, this film, which tells the story of two cousins traveling to their late grandmother’s hometown in Poland, has shared the title of ‘Best Comedy’ with “Deadpool & Wolverine” at the Critics Choice Awards.

Eisenberg exclaimed, ‘That was incredible!’ They initially declared that ‘A Real Pain‘ had won, but then they double-checked and found it was actually ‘Deadpool. However, this turn of events turned out to be the best possible outcome for us. Suddenly, Ryan Reynolds – a global phenomenon – congratulated ‘A Real Pain‘, which is likely the first time most people around the world had even heard about our film.
