As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the virtual world of Apple TV+ shows, I can confidently say that Jessica Williams‘ character Gaby and her water bottle in Shrinking is nothing short of a masterstroke. The attention to detail in this series is unparalleled, with seemingly insignificant elements like Gaby’s water bottle serving as profound character builders.
During the initial episodes of the first season of “Shrinking”, it’s made evident that Jessica Williams’ character, Gaby, often carries a large, light blue water bottle with a clear appearance. Throughout the course of the series, this bottle accumulates various stickers and accessories. Given my personal affinity for stickers and owning an emotional support water bottle, I find this detail about Williams’ therapist particularly endearing. Therefore, when I was given the opportunity to speak with her before the Season 2 premiere, which is scheduled for 2024, I couldn’t resist asking her about it.
I strongly feel that one of the reasons “Shrinking” stands out among Apple TV+’s top shows is its meticulous attention to detail. Details such as Liz’s rocks and Gaby’s water bottle might seem trivial, but they actually enrich the show and the characters. For instance, Gaby’s water bottle plays a crucial role in her relationship with Harrison Ford’s character, Paul. Over time, she manages to persuade him to use one too, which not only helps them both stay hydrated, but also symbolizes their growing friendship as they bond deeper and he learns to accept help.
Additionally, it highlights the unique touch that Williams brings to the character, quite literally, as she shared with me during an interview with TopMob.
That’s really nice of you to notice, because that’s just me. I was doing that.
Initially, I appreciate that Williams personally adorned her character with the lanyard and all the vibrant stickers in the show’s first season. These additions not only reflect Gaby’s affinity for bold colors but also enhance her vivacious personality. We can expect even more of this colorful flair in Season 2, as the actress has shared insights about the ongoing transformation of her water bottle’s design.
This season, we’ve added quite a few more stickers to it. We also have a lanyard for easy carrying and movement. I aimed for items that looked handcrafted. If I had my way, there would be cute Hello Kitty stickers on there. Big Bud Press produces high-quality stickers; they are based in Los Angeles. Gaby frequently wears clothing from Big Bud Press.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but notice that Gaby often dons pieces from Lucy & Yak and Big Bud Press during her shows. These eco-friendly labels are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns. If I were in her shoes, I’d proudly sport these brands even on my water bottle, aligning myself with her stylish and sustainable ethos!
Plus, you can’t go wrong with Hello Kitty!
Yet, not every item Jessica James intends to affix onto the bottle can be attached, as the selection process turns out to be more intricate than one might imagine. Jessica James, the actress from The Incredible Jessica James, explained this complexity to me.
I would accumulate many items, but we needed to declutter them. So, when discussing props, the conversation would often revolve around finding clear stickers. Therefore, things that were easy to declutter served as destinations. I placed numerous destination-type stickers on those items, but I wanted it to transform more over time. I’m genuinely touched that you appreciated this detail.
Hey there Jessica, it’s really awesome that you put so much thought into your water bottle! As a gamer with a water bottle decked out in Ted Lasso, Super Yaki, and my hometown stickers, I completely understand the love Gaby has for her hydrating accessory, especially its intricate details. Now, I can’t help but get excited for more of those details when Season 2 arrives!
To observe the transformation of Gaby’s water bottle throughout this season, tune in to Jessica Williams and the cast of “Shrinking” starting October 16 on screen. With an Apple TV+ subscription, you can unwind every Wednesday and enjoy fresh episodes of this comedy while sipping from your own comforting water bottle.
