JID isn’t simply resuming his musical journey from where he left off following the release of his album, The Forever Story, in 2022 – an album widely recognized as one of the most outstanding contemporary hip-hop albums today. After giving fans a sneak peek of “WRK” at Dreamville Festival this month, JID has now officially dropped this energetic new track, marking a fresh start for his musical rollout.
In the video released earlier this week, he mentioned that embarking on this fresh adventure, following “The Forever Story,” feels unusual yet fruitful and challenging at times.
Reflecting on the past, I recall a sense of disappointment after the release of that album, which briefly plunged me into a somber mood (though only for about 20 minutes because I’m no wallflower). Fast-forward to when Plus played this beat in the studio, and all I could hear was my old mentor urging me on with ‘Let’s get to WORK.’ Guided by the principle that one can only manage what they can control, this is the initial stride into a new realm that I have power over. And boy, it’s a messy start!
It seems like we can expect the rapper’s upcoming long-form project any time soon, as it has been confirmed that “God Does Like Ugly” is in development.
