The popular drag artist Jiggly Caliente, known for her appearances in two seasons of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ and for judging the Philippine adaptation of the series, tragically passed away at the age of 44.
As I, Caliente (formerly known as Bianca Castro-Arabejo), share this heartfelt message with you all, I want you to know that I’ve recently lost my battle with complications due to a severe infection. My family posted an update on Instagram about this unfortunate turn of events last Sunday.
A few days prior, they had shared some difficult news with my fans – I was stepping back from public appearances because I needed to undergo a leg amputation. This health issue has been challenging, but I’ve always relied on the love and support from my gaming community to help me through tough times.
Now more than ever, your encouragement means everything to me. Rest assured that I’ll be back among you all as soon as I can, continuing our shared passion for gaming and creating memorable experiences together. Stay strong, keep gaming, and know that I’m sending my love and appreciation to each and every one of you.
Jiggly Caliente, a shining figure in both entertainment and advocacy, was admired for her contagious enthusiasm, sharp humor, and unyielding sincerity,” the statement noted. “She impacted countless lives through her creative works, activism, and the genuine bonds she formed with fans globally.
Her memory lives on through love, bravery, and radiance,” it went on. “Even though her tangible self has departed, the happiness she bestowed and the areas she illuminated for countless others will endure eternally.
In the fourth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” broadcasted on Logo TV, Caliente competed as a contestant. Although she placed eighth, she made a comeback in the spinoff series “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” during season six, which aired in 2020.
Originally hailing from the Philippines, Caliente later relocated to New York City during childhood. Notably, she held a regular role in Ryan Murphy’s FX drama series, Pose, portraying Veronica. Additionally, she made appearances on shows such as Broad City and Search Party. Moreover, she has served as a judge for Drag Race Philippines.
Cliente, who came out as transgender in 2016, was also a vocal advocate for LGTBQ+ causes.
