As a dedicated follower of Alia Bhatt’s career and someone who appreciates the behind-the-scenes drama, I must say that the story of her upcoming film, Jigra, is as intriguing as the movie itself! The unique dynamics between Alia, Vasan Bala, and Karan Johar make for an interesting tale.
In her thriving professional journey, Alia Bhatt has consistently excelled. She’s starred in several successful movies at the box office, earned a National Award for Best Actress, and made her debut in a Hollywood production. This year, she’s set to venture into producing with Vasan Bala’s upcoming action-thriller, Jigra, where she also plays the main role. Despite her excitement about joining the team, the director felt a tinge of disappointment when Karan Johar shared the film’s early script with Alia.
In an interview with Tried & Refused Productions, Alia Bhatt discussed how Karan Johar played a significant role in bringing Jigra to her. She explained that after seeing Vasan Bala’s Monica, O My Darling, KJo expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the filmmaker for his production house. Alia mentioned that they brainstormed about the type of movie they wanted to create, and it seemed like Bala already had an idea regarding who would be ideal for the roles in the film. In response, the director of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota simply said “No.
Vasan clarified that he’d emailed Karan a rough draft, his raw thoughts at the moment, and later, Karan phoned him saying he had forwarded it to Alia. “I was quite displeased with it,” said Bala. If he had realized it would be sent to the actress from Gangubai Kathiawadi, he would have taken time for proofreading, grammar checking, and perhaps crafted a more impressive introduction.
The email was dispatched, prompting the writer-director to query Karan, “Why did you take such an action?” To which he responded, “No, no, that’s how it goes.” Later, he added, “We’ll catch up in a few days.” After giving birth to Raha, Alia and Bala convened to discuss the plot. However, since Johar instructed him to present the story during their meeting, Vasan Bala devised the climax on his way there because he hadn’t prepared the second half with him.
During the interview, the actress shared that upon reading just the initial part, she reacted immediately. Despite finding it intriguing to work with them, she felt the need to know more, specifically the remaining section. Reflecting on the conversation, Alia mentioned, “I pursued him for an entire month to get the second half and it finally materialized.
Besides Bhatt, the film features Vedang Raina as the main character. The release date of Jigra is set globally for October 11, 2024, in cinemas.
