Jimmy Kimmel Explains Why He Will Not Host the 2025 Oscars

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the labyrinth of virtual worlds, I can empathize with Jimmy Kimmel‘s decision to step back from hosting the Oscars for a while. Just like in my quest for that elusive high score or rare loot drop, it takes an unwavering focus and dedication to succeed.

Late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel is explaining his decision to not host next year’s Oscars.

On the recent episode of “Politickin’ “, Kimmel shared why he won’t be hosting the Academy Awards in 2025 and also talked candidly about his son’s medical procedures and well-being.

“Regarding the Oscars, when my attention is centered there, other aspects, such as the show, tend to get less focus,” he clarified. “This time around, I chose not to handle it, as it was simply too overwhelming last year.”

He noted, “You tend to postpone everything until after the Oscars, and then you must complete all that you’ve pledged to finish afterwards.”

“He mentioned that his first hosting period lasted for two years and it was successful. Afterward, he hosted for another two years, which also turned out well. Feeling like he needed a brief rest, he decided to take one.”

He expressed, “I’m completely committed to events such as the Oscars. They’re always on my mind, from morning till night. Whenever I get an idea related to it, I feel compelled to develop it, and then my evening work seems like a hassle.”

Kimmel mentioned that occasionally, the writers for Live With Jimmy Kimmel! get reallocated to pen the Oscars scripts, which can be quite a diversion. Moreover, he pointed out that the position as Oscars host doesn’t come with any monetary compensation – a fact he has previously disclosed, revealing that he was paid only $15,000 for his work on the event in 2024.

Although it was enjoyable and satisfying when things went smoothly, Kimmel admitted that doing it for three consecutive years was overwhelming for him. Essentially, he has a lot of creative freedom in this role, which is part of the agreement. While there’s no monetary compensation, they also don’t meddle with his work.

Speaking about his replacement, he confided in the Politickin’ crew that there are numerous individuals with ample skill who could effectively host the Oscars. However, he is aware that many of them are hesitant due to the challenging nature of the position.

“You understand that it’s a time-consuming task, and many individuals you might assume would excel at it, express interest but ultimately decline. They recognize their potential, yet they’re hesitant. This is particularly true when people are considered for high-profile roles like hosting the Oscars. Some view it as an unwanted responsibility, but I wouldn’t put it that way. When things go smoothly, it’s not thankless, but if things don’t, it can be a challenging position to find oneself in.”

As I eagerly follow the latest industry news from Puck News, it’s intriguing to learn that ABC was said to have extended offers to me and John Mulaney. Regrettably, we both chose to decline this exciting opportunity, as initially reported by Puck News.

During the course of the conversation, Kimmel additionally provided an update about his son, Billy, who is seven and has undergone numerous heart operations.

“Jimmy Kimmel shared that his son underwent his third open-heart surgery in May, but he’s currently thriving well. Apart from the scar on his chest, you’d never guess he had any surgery at all. He’s quite the jokester and is doing perfectly fine now. We hope there won’t be a need for another operation in the future. Jimmy expressed gratitude towards the Children’s Hospital in L.A., which provides excellent care.”

In the political podcast of iHeartMedia, which airs weekly, Kimmel was interviewed on August 12 by an unusual trio of hosts: Governor Gavin Newsom of California, former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, and influential agent Doug Hendrickson. This unconventional grouping discusses important topics as described in their Spotify description, focusing on conversations that are essential to address.
