JiyongKim’s AW25 Embodies Its Experimental Ethos

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but marvel at how Jiyong Kim’s namesake label carves out its unique niche. Known for its eye-catching sun-washed designs and architectural silhouettes, it’s clear that JiyongKim is embarking on an enthralling creative journey as a brand. It’s not just about sun-bleaching anymore; the label is broadening its horizons, focusing more on performance-oriented pieces, and subtly nudging the boundaries of its womenswear collection.

Distinguished by an array of colorful, non-faded pieces, the collection additionally includes a joint effort with Kolon Sports, boasting robust GORE-TEX waterproofing technology.

In the interview with TopMob Magazine Issue 33: The Systems Issue, Kim found himself chatting with TopMob, and during their conversation, the designer shared that his discovery of sun-bleaching – a method not widely used by other designers – occurred as he wandered through Seoul’s fabric markets. It was there that he came across a trench coat that had been left to soak up the sun for an extended period.

At that time, others considered these items as unattractive and discarded them. However, I appreciated their flaws and didn’t wish to have them corrected because of them.

For the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, various clothing items showcase diverse washes, a detail Kim elaborated on during her interview with Systems magazine.

As the fabric moves along with the sun’s fading, it produces a multi-layered, striking appearance. The way we display the fabric, either by hanging it or placing it on the ground, significantly impacts its overall texture.
