The popular show “The Golden Bachelor” is confirmed to return this fall according to the 2025 TV lineup, sparking much curiosity about Season 2. Who will step into Gerry Turner’s shoes as the next leading gentleman? Well, Joan Vassos, our beloved “Golden Bachelorette,” has taken on the task of finding out!
Despite our predictions about which The Golden Bachelorette contestant might become the star, the new leading man is no one Joan Vassos dated during her season on her way to her happy ending with Chock Chapple. It’s been announced that former NFL player-turned-lawyer Mel Owens will be looking for love this season. Check out Vassos’ Instagram reaction:
Apart from posting the formal update, Vassos playfully commented that Mel Owen is “adorable… nearly as adorable as Chock!” before expressing her excitement for the upcoming season. This light-hearted remark suggests that Vassos is displaying a flirtatious attitude towards the new Golden Bachelor, but at the same time, she doesn’t forget to acknowledge her own partner. It’s evident that they, Vassos and Chock, are deeply in love as they approach their first anniversary this summer.
Originally, it was assumed that one of Joan Vassos’ former partners would be chosen for their own season this time; however, the ABC series has opted to offer the chance to newcomer Mel Owens instead. Mel, who is 66 years old, played as a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams for nine seasons in the 1980s and later became a lawyer specializing in workers’ compensation, sports law, sports injuries, and disability benefits. He appears to be an excellent match for the upcoming season of Golden Bachelor.
Originally from Michigan, Owens is now divorced following a 25-year marriage and has two sons with his first romantic partner. After two seasons focusing on individuals who found themselves single due to the loss of their partners, Owens’ story might offer a fresh perspective, shedding light on the experiences of divorce among seniors.
Although Vassos expressed her eagerness to merely “observe,” it’s hard to envision a Golden season without her presence at some point, given the successful partnership she shares with Chock. As of now, Joan and Chock are not husband and wife (with no plans to tie the knot this year). Originally, they had planned to relocate to New York City together, but it appears they’re still adjusting to their shared new life. Why hurry if they’re content? After Gerry and Theresa’s televised wedding ended in a split several months later, I can understand their reluctance to rush into marriage.
For the contestants returning to “Bachelor In Paradise” this summer, some beloved personalities from past seasons will be included, but I’m sorry to say, Gerry Turner won’t be among them. As for when it will air, we’re still waiting on an official release date, but it’s expected to premiere in September, just like the last season did.
