As a long-time admirer of Joaquin Phoenix‘s acting prowess and his unwavering commitment to impactful roles, it is always a letdown when such a promising project hits a roadblock. The untitled Todd Haynes film, which promised an intriguing exploration of a gay romance, was shaping up to be another masterpiece in Phoenix’s impressive repertoire.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s confirmation, Joaquin Phoenix is no longer involved in Todd Haynes’ upcoming romantic drama film project.
Due to the actor’s sudden departure, the unnamed project has been halted, as it was scheduled to start filming in Guadalajara, Mexico only five days later. Unfortunately, the role will not be re-filled for the movie that Phoenix had originally pitched to Haynes and collaborated on with the acclaimed director.
Haynes’ upcoming film will center around a gay love story, featuring Danny Ramirez in a leading role. Notably, Ramirez has been seen in “Top Gun: Maverick” and the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World.” Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler are set to produce the project.
THR has reached out to Phoenix’s team for comment.
Deadline was first to report the news of Phoenix’s departure.
More to come.
