- ‘Brave New World’ Showcases Why Audiences Need to See Joaquin Again
The highly anticipated movie, titled “Captain America: Brave New World”, made its debut in theaters this February, and although it didn’t win over critics, it has been well-received by audiences. Picking up from the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) now holds the title of Captain America. This means that his friend Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) has taken over the mantle of Falcon. In this new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Sam is embroiled in a growing global crisis that jeopardizes worldwide peace. As he strives to discover the true mastermind behind the sinister plot that started with an assassination attempt on President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), he and Joaquin cross paths with a villain who always seems to stay one step ahead.
In the wake of the Infinity Saga’s conclusion with 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”, fresh characters are undeniably crucial for the continued success of upcoming phases. One such character who seems perfectly suited to complement Captain America is Sam’s new ally, Joaquin. Displaying a similar sense of humor and intellect as Cap, Joaquin seamlessly fits into the role. Although audiences were first acquainted with Joaquin in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, it was his lead role in this series that truly captivated viewers. His performance is so compelling that fans are eagerly anticipating seeing more of him after “Captain America: Brave New World”.
Who Is Joaquin Torres in the MCU?
Read Our Review
Initially, Joaquin made his debut in the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. Here, he assisted Sam and Bucky (played by Sebastian Stan) on multiple occasions as they pursued Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) and her anti-nationalism faction, the Flag Smashers. Being an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force, Joaquin provided support for various missions and played a crucial role in preventing Karli and her followers from achieving their objectives. A longtime admirer of the original Falcon, Joaquin later adopted the title himself following Sam’s transformation into Captain America and his passing of the old suit to Joaquin at the series’ conclusion.
In the narrative of “Brave New World,” it’s me, Joaquin, who takes on the role of Sam’s unofficial partner, not a character with supernatural powers. I’m not a super soldier, nor have I been exposed to gamma radiation. However, much like Sam, I excel in other areas due to my background. My military training makes me a skilled fighter, a trait that proves useful when working alongside Sam. Importantly, it’s essential to note that while I may not possess inherent abilities, many of mine are indeed enhanced by the Falcon suit I wear. This technology grants me significant advantages in combat against my adversaries.
‘Brave New World’ Showcases Why Audiences Need to See Joaquin Again
In their new roles as Captain America and Falcon respectively, Brave New World strongly emphasizes that we’d love to see more of Sam and Joaquin. They have an engaging dynamic with quick-witted banter that adds a delightful touch to the film’s serious moments. Joaquin, in particular, is a character who deserves continued appearances in future MCU productions. With the Avengers likely to reunite at some point given looming otherworldly threats, Falcon has consistently shown why he should remain in the group, if not as a leader. Indeed, he proves himself as a capable and promising potential Avenger.
In numerous aspects, Joaquin shares many qualities with Sam. He’s driven by a strong desire to act honorably and aims to emulate Captain America’s noble character, a goal he achieves impressively in the film, particularly from Sam’s point of view. Joaquin played a pivotal role in shaping the storyline of “Brave New World.” If it weren’t for him, Sam would have been unaware of the danger they confronted in the movie. Joaquin demonstrated his abilities admirably, and it’s essential that audiences get to witness more of his talents as the Marvel Cinematic Universe progresses.
It’s evident that Joaquin possesses the skills necessary to carry out his responsibilities, and his association with Captain America underscores his significance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite some critics disliking Brave New World, the film has maintained its popularity, largely due to Joaquin’s portrayal of Falcon. If the recent Marvel movie didn’t accomplish much else, it certainly made a strong case for more of Joaquin as Falcon in future projects.
By the way, the entire MCU collection is accessible on Disney+, and Captain America: Brave New World is currently showing in theaters.
