It’s widely known that CD Projekt Red is developing a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, given the game’s strong sales even during its initial rough period, which improved significantly later on. Fans are eagerly anticipating that the sequel won’t be launched in a hasty manner like its predecessor, which arguably should not have been released in such an unpolished state, especially for PS4 and Xbox One platforms.
Unfortunately, those hoping for a third-person perspective might have to brace for disappointment.
On LinkedIn, through the Gaming Leaks subreddit, there’s a job opening for a Senior Gameplay Animator. Interestingly, the job posting makes no secret about it being a sequel, and judging by the job description, it appears to be a follow-up to Cyberpunk. The role requires an individual who can “boost the player’s immersive experience in first person perspective,” suggesting that the game will continue as a First-Person Shooter (FPS).
Despite the success of the first game, many Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts had hoped for the option to play the sequel in third-person perspective. They believed that the extensive character customization in the initial game was diminished when played in first-person, making all the effort put into personalizing characters seem unnecessary. Although some fans managed to modify a third-person mode, it didn’t offer the same experience.
Although development may be ongoing, there’s always a possibility that the gameplay could evolve, potentially incorporating a third-person camera angle. However, based on this description, it appears that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is likely to remain a First-Person Shooter with significant Role-Playing Game elements. It’s somewhat ironic that The Witcher 4 might offer a third-person perspective, but Siri’s customization options may not be as extensive.
Regardless if the camera for an outside perspective isn’t yet in play, enthusiasts can still cross their fingers that this Cyberpunk 2077 follow-up will be legendary material. It’s fortunate that the initial game underwent the revamp and remarkable Phantom Liberty add-on, or else this RPG could have ended up being remembered as a missed opportunity.
