As a long-time gamer and avid follower of Hollywood news, I have to admit that I was quite surprised by the recent revelation from Sofía Vergara about her divorce from Joe Manganiello. I’ve always admired Vergara for her successful career and strong personality, but hearing that their differing desires regarding having more children was a major factor in their split piqued my interest.
Joe Manganiello is countering Sofía Vergara’s statement that their divorce was due to her desire for more children than he was willing to have.
I once shared with the world through an article in “El País,” a Spanish newspaper, that my ex-husband’s strong yearning for having more kids was a major contributing factor to our separation.
She explained that her marriage ended due to a significant age difference between herself and her husband. He desired to start a family, while she preferred not to have more children at an advanced age. Having already raised a son of 32 years old, she was eager to become a grandmother instead of a mother once again. If love should enter her life in the future, it would need to bring along its own offspring.
In an interview with People, Vergara explained further, “I have great admiration for those who choose to become mothers after the age of 50. However, considering my profession, lifestyle, and marriage situation, I felt it wouldn’t be right to introduce a child into this world without being able to fully commit.”
However, Manganiello is giving his perspective.
I recently came across an interview with the actor and executive producer of “Deal or No Deal Island” in Men’s Journal, where he clarified some misconceptions. Contrary to what’s been reported in the media, I don’t long for a family. That’s just not how it is for me.
He shared, “For the initial year and a half of our relationship, we attempted to build a family. Early on in our courtship, during our first month together, we had an extensive discussion about having children. I expressed my willingness to accept her decision if she was done having kids, but it turned out that wasn’t the case with her. I assured her that I would never abandon her if things didn’t work out, and I kept that promise.”
Manganiello expressed to the publication that while he desires to have kids, the reason for their separation wasn’t just about not having children. Instead, they simply grew apart, which unfortunately can happen in relationships.
“Being portrayed as if I went through a midlife crisis and, after nine years, demanded someone to make a questionable choice for their health, saying ‘Do this or I’ll leave,’ is not in line with my true character.”
Last July, Vergara and Manganiello released a statement to Page Six, revealing they had decided to end their seven-year marriage through divorce. They kindly requested privacy during this challenging period as they move forward in their lives.
Based on reports from People magazine, the two initially crossed paths at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2014, introduced by Vergara’s Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Previously, Vergara and Manganiello have both moved forward in their personal lives and are currently involved in new romantic relationships. Vergara is now seeing orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman, while Manganiello is dating actress Caitlin O’Connor.
