John Elway Told Us His Thoughts On South Park Using Him For Past Storylines, And I Was Surprised By His Response

As a long-time fan of South Park and football, I must say that John Elway‘s candid revelation about his newfound love for the show has been nothing short of delightful. The man is a living legend, a two-time Super Bowl winner, and yet here he is, enjoying an animated series as much as we commoners do during our downtime.

South Park is as bold and uncensored as television shows come, causing quite a stir with some of its more contentious episodes. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not shy about expressing their affection for Colorado, the series’ backdrop, either – this is evident in their efforts to renovate Casa Bonita restaurant when it faced financial difficulties, as well as in their ongoing tribute to the Denver Broncos fanbase’s immense devotion. However, it remains unknown whether John Elway personally endorses the rumor that he is Eric Cartman’s father.

It just so happens that I’ve often pondered about it, and lo and behold, it was revealed on “The Masked Singer” that Elway is none other than Leaf Sheep. In a rare interview, he shared his thoughts on this unique encounter, as well as his perspective on being depicted in “South Park” throughout the years. To my astonishment, I found out that this two-time Super Bowl winner has been a recent viewer of the show!

I’ve found myself watching it more frequently when I have extra time, and I must admit, I really enjoy it. I’d heard numerous mentions of it before, but I can’t recall exactly how many times because whenever they featured me on an episode, one of my passionate fan friends would always ask, “Did you catch last night’s episode? By the way, you were on again last night!” It feels great to be part of such shows, especially when they elevate your status and make you feel good about it.

It’s reassuring to learn that the “Duke of Denver” doesn’t mind being depicted in the TV series “South Park.” Interestingly, he seems to have received more favorable treatment than many other celebrities on this popular animated show. For instance, his character has been connected to Eric Cartman as a possible father figure, and he was even honored by having sacrifices made to his statue in an episode titled “City On The Edge Of Forever.” Moreover, numerous images of him have appeared throughout the series.

There are so many classics worth another watch.

In South Park, not all celebrities have been as fortunate to receive such a positive depiction; some, like Jennifer Lopez, have taken offense to their portrayals. For instance, when Singer Lizzo saw her reference in the “Streaming Wars” special of 2023, she handled it gracefully. However, Jennifer Lopez was deeply hurt by her portrayal in Season 7’s “Fat Butt and Pancake Head”, to the extent that she deliberately avoided the creators at a subsequent event.

It appears that John Elway has a deep affection for Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and it would be wonderful if the creators could somehow include him in a future episode since I hadn’t expected someone like him to be a fan of South Park. After all, even legendary NFL players need amusement during their free time, and it’s not surprising that they enjoy the same humor we do from shows like South Park.

Now, this just has me wondering what other celebrities are watching South Park, and how they might feel about suddenly becoming the subject of an episode someday. Perhaps there’s some secret elite support group we don’t know about where they share those feelings, which, ironically enough, might also be a great pitch for a South Park episode.

One can stream the show called “South Park” using a Max subscription, but those with a Paramount+ account can watch some special episodes that are streaming exclusives. Meanwhile, the latest season of “The Masked Singer“, which is Season 12, debuted on Fox and airs every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
