John Krasinski will star in the dark comedic play Angry Alan Off-Broadway this June.
The play by Penelope Skinner will be the inaugural production at Studio Seaview, a space that was formerly known as Tony Kiser Theatre. Studio Seaview, famous for presenting John Mulaney’s All In: Comedy About Love, Good Night, and Good Luck with George Clooney this season, bought the theater from Second Stage Theater in January.
Sam Gold, known for his work on ‘An Enemy of the People’ and ‘Romeo + Juliet’, both produced by Seaview, will be directing the upcoming one-man show. The title role, played by ‘Angry Alan’, is set to begin performances on May 23, with an opening night scheduled for June 11. This production is planned for a run of ten weeks.
Angry Alan, which initially premiered at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, later graced New York stages following performances in London and various international venues. Co-created by Donald Sage Macky, who also starred in previous productions, this dark comedy revolves around Roger – a bitter divorcee and disgruntled employee facing job demotion. As his frustrations mount, he discovers solace in an online activist who believes that modern feminism is the cause of all male hardships, sparking a unique journey for Roger.
Krasinski garnered fame from his role on The Office and his extensive film work, which encompasses writing, producing, directing (IF), co-writing, directing, and starring in A Quiet Place, followed by its sequel A Quiet Place: Part II. Prior to this, he was part of the Off-Broadway play Dry Powder alongside Claire Danes and Hank Azaria in 2016.
Krasinski expressed his immense enthusiasm about going back to Off Broadway, adding that working alongside the talented actors Penny and Sam is practically a dream come true for him.
