John Legend Says His Daughter Looks Up to Kamala Harris: “She Is Excited to See Someone Who’s Black and Asian Like She Is”

As a proud parent and ardent supporter of progressive politics, I find John Legend’s sentiments deeply moving. Watching my little Luna connect with Kamala Harris is not just heartwarming, but it’s also a powerful reminder of the importance of representation. It’s like seeing a mirror image of my child in the White House, and it fills me with hope for our future.

John Legend says his eight-year-old daughter feels a special connection to Kamala Harris.

Luna, the Grammy-winning celebrity and oldest child of Chrissy Teigen, identifies as both Black and Asian, similar to Kamala Harris. Legend has it that when Luna gazes upon Vice President Harris, she recognizes a piece of her own identity.

“[Luna] is thrilled to observe someone who shares both her Black and Asian heritage, as well as her female identity, similar to herself. As a result, she regards [Kamala] with a sense of recognition, thinking ‘that’s me’ in the spotlight,” Legend explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “For Luna to witness this representation undeniably inspires her, and she’s filled with excitement. She finds it hard to comprehend why anyone would support Donald Trump, although that’s a different matter altogether.”

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that this week, I’ll be attending a private gig at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago – it’s Legend himself who’s set to perform! You might recognize his name; he’s the EGOT winner and part of the family that includes sons Miles, Wren, and daughter Esti. He’s even been to The White House and met Vice President Harris on numerous occasions. In June, my friend Chrissy moderated a discussion about reproductive rights with none other than Kamala herself!

Over time, Legend has consistently backed Democratic candidates, and he’s thrilled to witness Harris as the chosen Democratic presidential nominee.

“He believes that the new leadership at the top was crucial in igniting the enthusiasm we experience today. It’s palpable, this surge of mobilization, dedication, volunteering, donating, and encouraging others to vote. This energy, which was previously absent, is clearly noticeable now.”

“It seems people were not particularly eager to elect two octogenarians, preferring instead fresh energy and enthusiasm. I’m deeply appreciative of President Biden for making the sacrifice, as he could have easily run for reelection after such a successful first term. However, he recognized that this might not be ideal for the country, and his noble and patriotic decision to step down and let a new generation take over has inspired many. It’s truly uplifting to witness.”
