John Mulaney Reveals Details of New Netflix Talk Show

John Mulaney‘s upcoming Netflix talk show is coming together – it’s not too dissimilar from the successful trial he carried out in 2024.

The comedian attended the Next on Netflix event in Hollywood on Wednesday, and he revealed that starting March 12th, he will debut Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney.

Similar to his Netflix Is a Joke skit, Everybody’s in L.A. is a show that will be recorded in Los Angeles and boasts an intriguing lineup of diverse guests, live audience phone calls, Richard Kind, and Saymo – the food delivery robot. “This will be a unique platform where you might find Arnold Schwarzenegger next to Nikki Glaser next to a family therapist with music by Mannequin Pussy,” explained Mulaney. “That’s just a taste of our potential guests. We’re not sure if we can confirm Mannequin Pussy yet, but negotiations are ongoing.

He also mentioned, “This is an incredibly enjoyable project,” he said. “It’s been quite some time since Netflix invested this amount of money in someone without a clearly defined strategy.”

He added, “This is a truly exciting experiment,” he said. “Netflix hasn’t given as much money to anyone else without a specific plan like this for a long time.

For six consecutive nights, the show titled “Everybody’s in L.A.” aired, hosting comedy greats such as Jerry Seinfeld, Will Ferrell, Jon Stewart, and David Letterman, along with other diverse guests like Marcia Clark, Ray J, and Flea. The show included pre-recorded segments, comedy skits, and even some unusual elements. As stated by the show’s creator, it was an unconventional mix, which contributed to its success and the decision to bring it back. “We had a hypnotist, an expert on coyotes in L.A., a palm tree expert, an earthquake expert, and more. We covered almost every natural disaster that occurs in California except one – we weren’t quite prepared for it yet.

(That last remark, it should be said, played very well in room.) 

The show Everybody’s Live has begun its initial 12-week run, but given the satisfaction of all involved, it’s challenging not to envision an extension beyond this point. This could be the case, regardless of the fact that the concept might not be entirely original for either party.

I must confess, this show wasn’t exactly on my bucket list or something Netflix urgently needed. In fact, it seemed like the ideal time for us both – with them stepping away from talk shows – to give this a try.
