Although his Hollywood career hasn’t completely rebounded from the adverse publicity stemming from their divorce, he remains well-liked globally and is still welcomed by European filmmakers. In 2023, he kicked off the Cannes Film Festival with “Jeanne du Barry,” directed by French filmmaker Maïwenn.
Notable figures gracing Rome Fest’s 19th installment are Viggo Mortensen and Francis Ford Coppola, who will be honored in a special ceremony. Mortensen is scheduled to debut his western movie titled “The Dead Don’t Hurt“, where he collaborates with actress Vicky Krieps. This film marks the second directorial venture for Mortensen, following the 2020 drama “Falling“, featuring Lance Henriksen. Coppola will showcase his long-awaited project “Megalopolis“, an epic tale about a tenacious architect (Adam Driver) aiming to reconstruct the fictional city of New Rome after a catastrophic event.
