As a seasoned gamer and Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is shaping up to be an absolute game-changer. The star-studded cast, led by the addition of Natasha Lyonne, featuring Elizabeth Olsen‘s endorsement of her fellow MCU alumna Natasha Lyonne as Mister Fantastic’s sidekick, Invisible Woman, and Thing is nothing short of inspiring.
After its debut at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, the movie “His Three Daughters,” directed by Azalea Jacobs, will soon be streamable for Netflix subscribers later in this month. This upcoming release from 2024 features a star-studded cast including Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne, all of whom are well-known for their roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we won’t catch a glimpse of Lyonne in the franchise until “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters in summer 2025, Olsen is optimistic that Lyonne will seamlessly adapt to this superhero realm.
While Olsen and Coon, who have respectively played Scarlet Witch and Proxima Midnight in the MCU, were chatting with GamesRadar+ about His Three Daughters, the former was asked if she had any guidance for Lyonne following her casting in the newest Fantastic Four reboot. She responded:
She doesn’t require any guidance. She’s quite capable of managing herself in the world on her own. She’s a strong-willed woman, able to tackle any circumstance, as far as I can tell.
Carrie Coon expressed that Natasha Lyonne is incredibly intelligent, making her feel certain that her co-star in the upcoming Netflix film won’t struggle with joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In May, it was reported that Lyonne is part of the cast for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, but the character she will portray is still unknown. This will be her second superhero role, having previously voiced Merton in “DC Super Pets”.
Natasha Lyonne’s costars in First Steps include Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as a female version of The Silver Surfer. Like Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich have also been cast in undisclosed roles. Additionally, it’s rumored that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will cameo in First Steps before taking center stage as the lead antagonist for the upcoming Marvel movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Details about the specific storyline for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” are being kept secret, but we do know that the movie will be set on a different Earth within the Marvel multiverse instead of the primary MCU reality. It’s also been confirmed that Galactus will aim to consume this Earth, setting the stage for whatever events unfold in the film. The original four characters are expected to return for future movies like “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” where they’ll likely assist other Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes against Victor von Doom. Matt Shankman is directing this movie, with contributions to the script from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires, Eric Pearson, and Peter Cameron.
The movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters on July 25, 2025, and it’d be great to find out who Natasha Lyonne’s character is ahead of time. If you’re in the mood for a Marvel marathon, dust off your Disney+ subscription and catch up on the Marvel movies or any of the TV shows within the MCU.
