As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming masterpiece, Joker: Folie à Deux, has piqued my interest like no other film in recent memory. Having witnessed the rise and fall of countless cinematic titans, I can confidently state that Todd Phillips’ latest offering promises to be a true tour de force.
In the run-up to the October 4, 2024 launch of Warner Bros’ eagerly awaited psychological thriller, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” directed by Todd Phillips, there’s a growing buzz. Phillips has shared insights into how Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Arthur Fleck, sees Batman. Unlike the main DC film universe, “Joker: Folie à Deux” falls under the DC Elseworlds banner, explaining why Batman hasn’t been seen in this gritty origin tale of a legendary villain. This unique timeline adds to Arthur Fleck’s intrigue.
In a recent chat with IGN, Phillips explained that Arthur Fleck perceives Batman as an impressive figure of authority, someone he deeply admires due to his strong and confident demeanor, which “would captivate Fleck”.
I believe Arthur would be astonished by the dominance of Batman, truly he would. I think he would admire and appreciate it. I believe he’d be awestruck by that. He likely saw his coworkers as composed individuals, and

Will Batman Ever Cross Over Into the Joker Universe?
In the upcoming film “Joker: Folie à Deux,” it’s unlikely that Batman will appear, given that the Joker series is designed as a standalone franchise separate from other Batman stories. Introducing Batman into these movies could lead to confusion and might not be the best choice. Furthermore, Todd Phillips has stated that there won’t be another installment in the Joker series, effectively ruling out any future crossovers. However, Arthur Fleck did interact with a young Bruce Wayne in the 2019 movie. Director Todd Phillips hinted at the possibility of someone creating a Batman film set within this universe as an intriguing idea.
It would be intriguing to watch a Batman film set in this style, focusing on the character ten years down the line. If he’s around 12 or 11 initially and then becomes Batman at age 15 in this universe, I believe that concept would be quite engaging.
The film titled “Joker: Folie à Deux” has been stirring up excitement by veering off from the usual path set by the DC universe. Instead of the traditional Harley Quinn we’re used to, it presents a new character, played by Lady Gaga. This Harley, named Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, is a fellow inmate at Arkham Asylum who develops an obsession with Arthur. Unlike the conventional character, this Harley is more manipulative. Given that Phillips’ world is more grounded and gritty, this fits perfectly. There’s a strong sense of anticipation for the potential romantic chaos between these two main characters.
